Psychotherapy is a very costly process. And it's not even so much about money as about your time and mental strength. You need a lot of them. What can you take into account for the therapy to be effective? And how can a therapist take care of you?

Shouts, swearing, sobs … A man comes out of the door with a heavy gait, hands are down, coat is unbuttoned, eyes are red … Do you think the dungeons of the Chekists? No, it says "Therapist" on the door.

They don't enter this door from a good life. Everyone brings their pain. They pay money, look for support and care. Silent request "Make it less painful!". Again and again, they face their grief, rage, longing … It takes a lot of energy, but there is no other way. Only through your own personal Mordor.

If you decide to follow this difficult path of growing your soul, then you will need a lot of strength. And it will be a pity to spend them not on business.

It seems to me that in order to create a productive therapeutic alliance, the first step is to take care of safety. In psychotherapy, the concept of safety is quite specific. I will describe what I mean by it, and how the therapist can provide it.

Intimacy

That unique and deep atmosphere that develops between client and therapist is easily destroyed by external influences. It is difficult to open your soul when people look into the office, talk loudly outside the door, the phone rings or is simply noisy.

It can be difficult to create a trusting atmosphere in rented offices. Usually they are rented for an hour, the meeting lasts 50-55 minutes, but sometimes you need to complete a complex process, and the next tenant is waiting outside the door.

It happens that the therapist works from home. On the one hand, it impresses - you are allowed into your real life, but it may be embarrassing to ask for basic things. Wash your hands or use the toilet. Can be stressful. And if there are other people in the apartment at the same time, it can be completely embarrassing.

Consistency

In the work, the therapist will definitely discuss the working conditions with you: duration, frequency and cost of meetings. These rules make you feel more confident. But there are also additional points. For example, a place. It's good if you come to the same office. The psyche is designed in such a way that the familiar is perceived as safe. You can accurately calculate the time to get to the place and plan your next activities. I know of examples of busy people using their lunch break for psychotherapy. If your schedule is complex, it may not always be possible to secure the same space. The office must be booked in advance, otherwise it may be busy.

Serenity

Little things. They contain more than meets the eye. Do you drive a car? In Moscow, this can be a problem. For convenience, offices are often located in the center. Not only is the parking fee paid, but also there are often no places. God forbid evacuating! And traffic jams. And lateness is always at your expense.

Is it far from the metro? Is it easy to find?

I will separately mention the human factor. How polite is the administrator of the psychological center? I've met terrible ones - they talk to clients like they are naughty schoolchildren. It's hard to even ask them for a glass of water. Meanwhile, it is thanks to you that they receive their salaries.

If there is security, then they may require the disclosure of the last name, first name and even passport data. This lack of privacy doesn't suit everyone.

Comfort and coziness also mean a lot. The heat can hurt your head and you can't concentrate. If the office is in the basement, it can be damp and dark. Personally, I absolutely hate window bars. Tea, coffee, water, napkins - a necessary set for me at work.

I have not listed all of them. Listen to yourself - what is important to you personally? Don't ignore the little things. Quality work often depends on them.
