About procrastination and the psychological basis of this phenomenon

In the 21st century there is a special word for the phenomenon of when it is necessary to do, but not done. Many people call it procrastination, some call it laziness. The reality is that in this case you have a lot of plans, commitments and entries in the diary, but you shirk, find thousands of reasons why not to do something right now, delay the processes and leave everything for sometime later. As a result, you increase your stress level by doing everything at the last moment. Or you don't do it at all, and you keep the vitality in the body.

How to stop doing this to yourself?

There is no magic pill for procrastination. The only way to start doing something is to start doing something. But it will take will. As a starter and engine of vital processes, will is key. Even if you are a jogging fan, you need the will to get up in the morning and actually go jogging.

There is a happy type of people who implement ideas as soon as they come to their minds. If you are not one of those, you cannot do without will.

What if procrastination isn't just procrastination?

Of course, there is a psychological component to laziness and procrastination. When you think about an action or event, you have feelings. These feelings are not always joyful and pleasant, there are some that stop you.

For example, your actions can be blocked by a feeling - what if it does not work out, or - I will look stupid, or guilt - if I do this, it will violate someone's boundaries.

Such feelings are the motive for procrastination, its source. And it is difficult to do something about it on your own, and detailed plans, cursing in your direction and coaching will not help. In such cases, it is impossible to just pick up and start doing.

Therefore, if you are unable to pull yourself together and start acting, it makes sense to stop and ask yourself the question - what feelings do you have when you think about doing something. If you pay attention, you will most likely discover either fear, shame, or guilt.

Don't fight these feelings

Don't try to destroy them or ignore them! Give them the opportunity to live and develop. Strengthen them if you like. Imagine that what you are afraid of has happened. Draw this picture when you start doing what you want and you are ashamed. Live them. If you have the opportunity to tell your loved ones about your feet, not just stating, but living them in public contact, then the power of fear, shame or guilt will become much less. Sometimes it is enough to reduce the degree of incandescence inside to start acting.

How do you know when it's time to act?

Balance will help to understand this. If you want something for a long time and are afraid of it for a long time, measure your desire and your fear. What is more? If you want more than fear, you probably don't want what you want so badly. If there is more fear than desire, you will probably be poisoned by this feeling if you act. But if fear is equal to desire and desire is equal to fear, if these feelings are equal - start, act and go forward. Fear, shame, guilt are normal and not an obstacle. Even with such strong feelings, you can agree and start doing.
