“The personality of the doctor and the personality of the patient is often much more important to the outcome of treatment than the words and thoughts of the doctor. Meeting two personalities is like mixing two different chemicals: if there is any combination, both are transformed. With any effective psychological treatment, the physician must influence the patient; but this influence can take place only in the case of a reciprocal influence of the patient on the doctor. You cannot make an impact if you yourself are not receptive to it. "

An important observation, about which the famous Swiss scientist, the founder of one of the directions of depth psychology (analytical psychology) C. G. Jung, wrote, gives us a key to understanding the interaction that takes place in the office of an analyst, psychologist, psychotherapist.

A specialist who bases his work on the study of the deep aspects of the psyche, the study of its unconscious components, uses one important and fundamental tool - his psyche and its resources.

Often people who seek help nurture the idea that one can achieve perfection and become a completely "healthy" person, devoid of complexes and "negative" feelings. They are awaiting "correctional labor" for him in our shared space. And they do not even realize that this very "health" presupposes the presence of complexes, and the presence of both our capabilities and impossibilities. They had never thought about it before. They are enchanted and idealized, which is a huge obstacle to revealing their personality in all its diversity, both beautiful and terrible for them. In all its versatility.

I am aware that the "capacity" of my psyche has its own capabilities and limitations. At one time or another in life, they can manifest themselves in different ways, but, nevertheless, they exist. A person who came to me for help needs that at the moment of his appearance on the doorstep of the office, my resource is greater than his. He puts his expectations and his hopes on me. Together we begin his path, which can later become ours, his and mine.

- First, the client sees My capabilities and His limitations. And this is good for him, so it is more reliable.

- There comes a time when he begins to see His possibilities too.

- And the time must also come when he will be able to see not only My capabilities, but also My limitations, the limitations of his analyst.

But how can the client now be with what he saw and learned about the limitations from his psychologist … Undoubtedly, his response will follow, explicit or implicit. He may be disappointed, indignant. And during this period, trust in me as a specialist may be shaken. It turns out that the one to whom he came for help, and the one who is for him "initiated into the secrets of the human soul" can, like himself, not know and understand everything. And then what can you learn here? And how to deal with it now?

It is necessary to jointly meet and live the disappointment that has overtaken him. And I, in turn, must be ready, openly and courageously to talk to him about this.

And this is a very important stage in our joint work, which can help us move further in our interaction.

Thus, the Existence of life is gradually revealed in the study. And a client who comes to me has the opportunity to know and recognize in himself both his capabilities and his limitations, to reconcile opposites in his psyche. It's time for him to face this, initially observing such an integration with me. Then he can learn and gain new experience for himself. And this is necessary and important for him to go through in his therapy.

And if there is enough resource in the joint space on both sides, both from the specialist and the client, then they will be able to continue their journey further.

Therefore, in the working alliance, the topic of the possibilities and limitations of not only the client, but also the psychologist himself, can and should appear. This will contribute to the humanization of the relationship, which will continue to build trust, and will provide an opportunity for two Personalities to meet in the office space.
