We all feel intuitively but we verbally deny the fact that the office is not the right place for creativity. Don't misunderstand: Creativity doesn't just mean drawing, vocals, and guitar playing. Solving problems in modern companies requires an extraordinary approach: employers expect employees to think outside the box - to think outside the usual. Creativity is as applicable to mathematics as it is to art. For example, we recently created an application that can separate the paintings of famous abstract artists from fakes due to finding fractal sets on the originals (we all observe fractal sets when we look at the intertwining of tree crowns against a blue sky. Mathematics is more comfortable and kinder than it seems!)

Being in a gray, artificially lit room that is not designed for the efficient functioning of the human brain reduces productivity. And while Google and a number of its subsidiary companies hire green designers to relax employees and create an inviting atmosphere for creativity, most employers in the post-Soviet space rarely care about employee peace of mind.

Time to take matters into your own hands!

1. A breath of inspiration

In Japan, the practice of shinrin-yoku (literally: "swimming in the forest") is flourishing. The country pledges money annually to develop the industry by hiring forest therapists and spreading information about effective rest and distraction. It has been experimentally confirmed that being in the forest for two hours is able to energetically recharge and recharge a person, nourishing the body with a feeling of lightness.

In similar studies, scientists have found that viewing nature photographs for 10 minutes can set a person in a positive wave. I recently came across an awesome site called Unsplash. The site contains a myriad of photographs that can be viewed and downloaded for free. I put in the search bar a weather phenomenon, a type of landscape, a holiday that inspires me - and enjoy it!

You can try these options:

Forest

Trees

Lake

Nature

Waterfall

Flowers

Winter (winter)

Spring

Summer (summer)

Autumn

Hygge (a Danish way to relax during the cold season. Have you heard?:)

Christmas

2. "Walk with a glance."

If you are lucky and sit in front of the window from which you can see a piece of the local park, why not take your mind off the monitor and look out the window? Get lost in the branches. Look for fractal sets! The same Japanese, who are in love with nature, have discovered that the very contemplation of trees can awaken a sense of joy in a person. No SMS and registration, completely free!

3. "The dream of an accountant"

Bring flowerpots to your workplace. In the rooms where the equipment works (air conditioner, heater and their non-computer friends also live on this list), positive ions predominate. It is the positive ions that are responsible for the severity and headache we experience at the end of the working day. There is a legend that the accountants with their geraniums and ficuses from ancient times possessed an understanding of how flowers help to relax. Plants produce negative ions and absorb positive ones, creating a feeling of freshness. This is how my mother does it (sometimes it seems to me that she has so many of these plants that it seems as if they are rushing to her audience!):

4. Hello phytoncides!

Once in a London hospital, a nurse accidentally spilled a few drops of pine essential oil on her clothes - and found that this day was one of the happiest days of her life! The aroma exuded by conifers was prized by ancient civilizations for its cold-repellent properties. In the autumn-winter period, such properties are most relevant.

Juniper is good for preventing respiratory infections.

Pine and cypress have a pleasant pine scent and help the mind to clear up and focus.

The cedar is deep and creates a mystical atmosphere; essential oil of cedar is perfect to shelter the elusive anticipation of winter and New Year in the office.

Before using the scent adventure, make sure that the practice will be enjoyable for everyone around you.

And the main tip: it must be remembered that although our life consists of different spheres, it is something whole, inseparable. For this reason, it is impossible to be comfortable at work if family life is stressful. Information hygiene, maintaining physical, mental and spiritual health, maintaining healthy boundaries and understanding the interconnectedness of all things - this is the secret of balance between work and personal life.
