Emotional intelligence is a very popular topic now. But there is still no clear definition. There is a large amount of research and discussion that emotional intelligence is within the realm of ability and influences the ability to cope with life situations. We can say that emotional intelligence has the ability to process information that is in emotions: to determine the emotion and its essence, and also to use the information received as a basis for decision-making and thinking.
Most researchers emphasize that emotional intelligence can be developed if it is trained.
If you determine the success of activities in the field of psychology, then it is necessary to take into account the criteria for successful activities. They are the most important.
At the same time, the concept of "success" reflects, rather, objective achievements in specific activities and in life in general, and the concept of "success" reflects subjective excitement and the conditions for achieving success.
Objective success is usually measured by the following characteristics:
- the amount of wages;
- promotion;
- professional status in the organization.
Subjective success is the totality of a person's positive judgments about his professional achievements and results.
Success in professional activity is manifested in the achievement of a given goal.
Emotional intelligence is one of the important components in employment and professional activities.
If professional activity involves communication with people, then emotional intelligence is simply necessary. The main problem is that employees often do not talk about emotions, ignore, suppress or over-express them. This inevitably leads to a decrease in the efficiency of labor activity or to the emergence of conflicts.
Emotional intelligence by itself may not be a reliable predictor of job success, but it does provide the foundation for the competencies that are essential for success.
The adaptability of the employee, resistance to stress, the ability to conflict, communication, the level of empathy, as well as self-awareness and self-control affect the effectiveness of professional activity. It follows from this that emotional and social intelligence is extremely important for effective work and success in professional activity.
It is the person with higher emotional intelligence who makes better decisions, responds more efficiently and faster in critical situations.
The development of emotional intelligence can be considered as a necessary component of the professional competence of a specialist and as a significant factor in improving the psychological culture of society as a whole.
Not all theories of emotional intelligence can explain much of the difference in productivity and career success. Golman says: “When IQ scores correlate with how well people perform in their careers the highest grade, the difference in IQ scores for about 25 percent is a careful analysis, however, a more accurate figure may not be higher than 10 percent and perhaps, at a price of 4 percent"
So, emotional intelligence by itself may not be a reliable predictor of job success, but it does serve as the foundation for the competencies that are needed to be successful.
