A New Look At Goal Achievement

Enough notes, articles and even whole books have already been written about achieving goals. In this article, I will try to look at the process of achieving the goal itself, not blurred by advice and recommendations.

It will be about those goals that you really would like to achieve, but do not know how. That is, these are the goals that have already been formulated, visualized and you yourself know what you want, and not those goals that are blurry or you want to achieve them out of curiosity (“what if it works out?”).

What are the reasons for not achieving goals?

One of the main reasons is that thoughts about achieving a goal have not yet become natural for a person. What does it mean? Everyone knows that our actions are preceded by different thoughts and even feelings. Therefore, as long as we consider it unnatural to achieve our goal, we will not achieve it. In other words, while the goal seems to us unreal, unattainable, it will remain in the background and our thinking will not allow us to achieve everything that we would like. It is because of the thought that goals are unrealistic that many people postpone their achievement in a long and dusty box, never trying to touch their dreams. And the reason is not at all that someone lacks knowledge, but someone lacks money to achieve the goal, but the matter is in the unusual feeling of being successful, rich, etc.

I think everyone will agree with me if I write that a person can spend a lot of time learning how to do something "right", but it will not be effective until he starts to act. You can read books, take dozens of courses in the direction of your goal, plan, communicate with people and do many other things, but still not be sure that everything will work out. “I will get one more certificate and be able to receive clients, I will finish one more higher education (already 3 in a row) and then I can find a decent job, I’ll learn a little more here and become a specialist…” - many think so… to stay idle. And their goal is moving away from them, tk. the more theoretical they receive knowledge in some area, such as:

  1. They become less interested in applying this knowledge.
  2. Or, conversely, the more they know in a particular area, the more they understand that they know nothing, and there is more temptation to read, teach, learn, and so on ad infinitum …

When I call you to action, this does not mean that the action should be "anyhow", although it is better than inaction. Action should be large-scale … Let me give you an example. If you want to have a salary of 100,000 rubles, you need to tune in to 120,000, not 60,000. And then reaching the goal of 100,000 will be easier than if you were tuned in to only 60,000 (your subconscious mind will tell you why you are one hundred, after all, sixty is enough for you, and will even convince you of this). This is the essence of large-scale action and thinking. If you think big - it opens the way for you to significant results in achieving your goal.

Once you take action, mistakes in achieving your goal are certainly inevitable. But let it be big mistakes … Why big ones? Making big mistakes, a person learns faster and moves forward, when as little ones can pass unnoticed and no conclusions are drawn from these mistakes. That is, the probability is 100% that we will repeat the same mistakes, over and over again trying to achieve our goal.

Big mistakes hit us through and through, pervade our entire being, and at this point we can say one of two things to ourselves:

  1. Oh, why did I get involved in all this, why do I need it. I had to not do it from the very beginning, because it didn’t work. Or:
  2. There must be a way to do it differently, and it will be effective. There are a lot of people around that are getting their way and I seem to know what needs to be done to fix it.

If we are truly in tune with our goal, making big mistakes for us is an invaluable experience that will move us towards our goal and shape our character. Big mistakes temper a person.

Many people do not achieve their goal, because they are trying to build a direct path to it from point A to point B. It is important to strive for your goal, to your interest, but adjust the route. A straight line from one point to another is a kind of resistance to achieve the goal, it greatly limits the choice of actions, ideas, thoughts in achieving the goal.

It is very important in achieving the goal to note the intermediate successes that you have achieved. It motivates, keeps you from relaxing in achieving your goal, and reinforces the belief that you have a worthwhile goal.

A person who achieves his goals is constantly constant. What does it mean? Let me give you an example. Imagine that you are a person who has just received a coveted degree in psychology. You are enthusiastic, full of ideas, you have fresh knowledge and you want to save the whole world. You have a plan where to start. You start writing training programs in order to recruit people for them later. Ready! Your enthusiasm is at around 10 on a 10-point scale. You are charged for success. The programs are ready and you start to advertise your services … But no one is interested in your trainings, you come across empty offices with chairs in a circle. Your enthusiasm can drop to 8. Then you try to go into private practice and work with clients, but no one comes to your cozy office and does not need your services as a "freshly baked student". “Little experience,” they say. And then your enthusiasm drops to 6 … Added to this is the doubts of your close people: that this profession is not for you, you won't make money on it, you have no clients, you would have to learn some more … And you are already at level 4. And since As time goes on (while you were engaged in trainings, looking for people for consultations, fought with loved ones, defending your profession, your goal to become needed in it, etc.), your enthusiasm dropped to 2. And then doubts came: maybe this not mine, since it doesn’t work, maybe it should be different, but I don’t even know how … And that’s all. You are at zero. Why am I describing in such detail this process of extinction of enthusiasm and what is the connection with constancy?

When our imaginary student was enthusiastic (as much as 10 points), he was missing something of value and importance. This is important I call personal conviction … No matter how charged a person is with his idea and full of energy to achieve a goal, he will not achieve his goal if he does not have personal conviction. It is for this reason that many people “burn out” in achieving their goals. Personal conviction is equated, on the one hand, with the concept of enthusiasm. Why? Because conviction is the magnet that will attract success to itself, and your enthusiasm will also be maintained at the proper level, charged from this conviction. That is, you will burn, but not burn out.

We can assume that the student in the example originally had an enthusiasm level of 10 and a personal belief level of 3-4. In fact, it is very easy to get inspired by any idea, but if a person does not really believe in his dream, in the opportunities that open up before him, this inspiration will very quickly fade away.

When there is a big difference between enthusiasm and personal conviction, many factors will affect the person and prevent him from achieving the goal: from various circumstances to an influx of emotions, doubts and fears. And very soon this will lead to depletion of physical and moral strength.

A person who achieves his goal has a personal conviction level of at least 8 points, and an enthusiasm level of at least 9, and tries to keep himself within these limits. If his level of conviction drops, he does everything to bring it back to its previous level. He knows that negative beliefs can bring his enthusiasm down to zero, and positive beliefs can keep him going. If you represent all this on a graph, the fluctuations of this person in levels will be small, which allows him not to be distracted by the main goals.

Perhaps you have a question? How can you achieve a high level of personal conviction and enthusiasm? That's a very good question. As for self-belief (personal conviction) - don't let other people doubt your dream, your goal, steal that dream! The best thing you can do is improve your relationship with yourself, love yourself, deal with your fears, challenge yourself, break the attitudes that prevent you from living. This is not easy to do. It takes time, and sometimes an accepting and supportive person nearby (a psychologist).

Close and significant people will try in every possible way to undermine your faith in yourself and your beliefs. They are not used to the idea that you can be successful, rich, etc. Therefore, they will try with all their might to return you to your "former place". If you were able to convince you of worthlessness, not being successful, that this is not your goal and “why do you need it,” then you have become merged with them, with their belief system, moving away from your own. Your belief system needs to be unwavering to survive this. What can help in this rooting of the system? This is self-development and overcoming yourself. And also other people. Find people in your environment with strong belief systems, who may be going against the "masses", are true to their commitments, who are willing to think and act without departing from their belief systems. Communicate with such people, learn from them to build your belief system and achieve your goals! Good luck with that!
