Good afternoon dear friends!
We continue to discuss issues of therapy, issues of clients' attitude to it, issues of how clients perceive it …
Yesterday we finished with what I promised to say a few words about the client's request. As I wrote earlier, the client does not come with a request, but with a complaint. For example, with a complaint that he cannot openly express his thoughts. We will reformulate it all this way, for example: it is important to deal with those emotions and thoughts that interfere with expressing your thoughts. That is, it is already clear here what and how we, as psychologists, can work. Well, during the course of work, the request may change: it may not be important for some reason, it may be resolved successfully and some other trace will appear in its place.
And in the beginning, the client can very often perceive the therapy as a set of techniques and methods that will help solve the problem. Specific advice from a psychologist is also expected.
There is such an introject here that psychologists do not give advice. Give! Only this is not called advice, but recommendations. And they differ from advice in that we do not present them as the ultimate truth, but offer only to try something. Try what we think can improve the client's situation. Naturally, we tell him that it is important to think over and weigh everything first, that it is important not to treat our offer lightly, because the client understands better than us what he can do and what not, because he knows himself and his own better. a life…
Yes, at first, therapy can be perceived as a set of techniques that can help you achieve a specific goal. And the goal here is often to improve the condition from getting rid of the symptom.
Why is it bad to get rid of the symptom only? The fact that the symptom is not the root of the problem, but only its manifestation. Relatively speaking, we will correct the bump on the head, and it will come out somewhere else, on the leg, for example. That is, another symptom will appear if the cause is not dealt with.
For example, the same panic attacks. A very unpleasant symptom, but they are caused by different reasons, which in general can be designated in gestalt terms, as a lack of support. In the background, at some difficult moment for him, a person has nothing to rely on, and a "fall" occurs. Therefore, it is important to understand the human support system, to build it up, then the symptom will go away. Well, I just told it in a simplified way. Panic attacks are always psychological.
Thank you for attention!

3 Differences Between Resting Therapy And Crisis Therapy?
Many people turn to therapy when an inevitable collapse occurs - they were fired from their jobs, divorced their husbands, caught the child using drugs or strong alcoholic drinks, brought themselves to exhaustion or depression. So, what is the difference between individual and group psychotherapy?
