Anxiety Is the reaction of our body to a collision with something dangerous that can destroy our existence or values that we identify with our existence.

How does anxiety manifest?

Somatic symptoms: palpitations, rapid breathing, tremors, sweating, vomiting, diarrhea, dizziness.

Psychological symptoms: impatience, feelings of helplessness and defenselessness.

Anxiety is based on a sense of fear. But they have differences. Fear is a reaction to a specific danger. Anxiety is a reaction rather to an uncertain, unclear danger, a premonition of danger. It is not always possible to say what a person is threatened specifically. There is some kind of ambiguity, uncertainty, vagueness. Anxiety, unlike fear, is characterized by a feeling of helplessness in the face of danger.

The hazard can be related to external factors, for example, hurricane, earthquake. And this creates helplessness, we cannot control them. Or with internal, for example, uncontrollable unconscious affects inside a person, which he cannot control.

There are three questions that help investigate and concretize anxiety

1. What is at risk.

2. What is the source of the threat?

3. What is my helplessness related to?

Anxiety happens:

Normal is a reaction to an objective danger

Neurotic is a disproportionate reaction to danger or a reaction to an imagined danger.

Reasons for anxiety:

Very often repressed hostility is at the root of anxiety.

What does it mean to supplant hostility?

This means pretending that everything is fine and not fighting when it is needed or we would like it. This heightens the feeling of defenselessness.

Why is hostility being crowded out?

Because the consciousness of their hostility can be unbearable for a person. For example, a person may love and need someone, and at the same time have hostile feelings towards that person. For example, anger, envy, jealousy, possessiveness. It is difficult for a person to withstand the ambivalence of feelings, he does not understand what to do with it and drives out his hostility.

Crowding out hostility is the shortest path to calmness, but it is not safe.

Because by repression, anger is not eliminated. He goes into the unconscious. Now it is out of human control and acts as an explosive mechanism. Or inside a person, destroying it. Or outside, projecting their hostility onto others. For example, I do not want to deceive, use, exploit, humiliate, but others want to do this in relation to me.

Hostility provokes anxiety, anxiety provokes hostility. And this is a vicious circle.

What to do?

There are different ways to deal with anxiety:

Destructive ways: compulsive workaholism, any anesthesia, rigidity of thinking, psychosomatic symptoms.

Constructive ways: this is when we accept anxiety as a challenge and stimulus in order to clarify and solve the problem that lies behind it.

There is always a problem behind neurotic anxiety. Anxiety means that there is a contradiction in our value system, there are conflicts. Anxiety can be compared to a high temperature, which is a sign of a struggle in the personality.

Therefore, an important step in dealing with anxiety is awareness. Awareness of your feelings and needs. Because suppression of feelings and needs leads to neurosis, and anxiety is the fundamental problem of neurosis.

Is it important to learn to admit to yourself how I am feeling? Which ones I can't stand? What feelings should I not feel and show? What kind of person do I not want to be? What kind of person should I not be and who forbade me?

Working on self-awareness, a person advances in the knowledge of his personality and the ability to influence his life. There is less anxiety as there is more ability to satisfy their needs, hearing themselves, others and their destiny.

It is important to remember: the appearance of anxiety is a signal of our psyche that something is wrong inside us. Anxiety signals that something needs to be noticed and changed. Anxiety is a call to hear the call of our true Self, which longs for manifestation and realization. And to understand that this requires patience with yourself and a lot of work. The task is to translate neurotic anxiety into normal, and to look normal anxiety in the eyes, go through it and reach a new level of development.
