One day, my nephew wondered where dreams come from? I rubbed my hands happily, because dreams are a favorite topic of all psychoanalysts, we love to listen to them, explore, analyze and interpret them.

Opening my mouth to begin the lecture with the concept of the unconscious and about dreams, which, according to Freud, are the "royal road" to this very unconscious, I had to catch this word by the tail on flight and again strain my convolutions. Well, how to explain to an eight-year-old child what the unconscious is, how it functions and takes part in the creation and work of dreams?

Look, you know that every person has organs inside, each of them performs its own function. The heart pumps blood, the lungs take air and oxygenate your entire body, the muscles help you move your eyebrows, arms and legs, your teeth chew on the cutlet, the stomach digests it, and the tongue chatters and asks questions, and it also tastes the taste of this cutlet. Some organs can be seen with the help of ultrasound, you can check if they work well, you can touch them, well, those that are outside, the tongue, for example.

- Did you touch it? And How?

-Wet and slippery

-Yeah, it is

But there is also such an organ that cannot be touched and cannot be seen, but can be understood by the way it expresses itself - this is the psyche, dreams are its work. The psyche consists of several parts, the largest and most important part is called the unconscious, everything that happened to you is stored there, even if you did not notice it. And we don't notice a lot, and it's not just that. When you go outside, you see: what a big world, every second something is happening around you, but if you see all this with your own eyes, hear with your ears, catch smells with your nose, it will be very difficult and difficult for you, information there will be too many. It's like pouring a huge bucket of water into a cup from your doll service. The cup will fit as much as fit, and the rest?

-Is it going to pour out ?!

-Yes! This is how special protection works inside you - everything that surrounds us, everything that happens, falls into a special place inside you, but in such a way that you notice only what fits into your doll's cup.

Where do dreams come from …

But what about the fact that the cup did not fit, and you seem to know nothing about it? Remember Harry Potter? There was a room to help out, in which a lot of things were hidden, both good and bad. Here is an unconscious, something like a help-out room, and every person has such a room inside. It also includes what happened to you during the day, your school affairs, how you played with your brother, and how you walked with your mother, and even what cartoons you watched. And when you go to bed, you rest, but your psyche is working. She tries to sort out all your daily adventures and impressions on the shelves, everything that you liked and not very pleased and saddened, and she turns it all into a dream.

This is your own movie, which your psyche came up with from what happened to you. In addition, she tries to make this movie interesting, so that you have a good, sound sleep and get up in the morning, slept and rested. Remember when you dreamed about a huge cake? Do you remember that it was before your birthday, and you were very worried and looked forward to your holiday? Your psyche fulfilled your desire, tried to make you not worry so much. Do you remember when you dreamed that you were walking with your dad? And dad in k was then on a business trip. This is because you missed him, and your psyche tried to make you not be very sad, because in a dream you felt good and fun, as if dad was there.

-And if I dreamed something terrible? My curious nephew asked, and I wondered how to tell an eight-year-old child about the affective basis of frightening dreams?

But this is a completely different story, which I will tell next time.

Interesting, to you, dreams

Sincerely yours, Karine Kocharyan
