My second favorite topic, after motivation, is goals! They are now shouted about at every corner, great gurus promise to tell you secrets and secrets of how to set goals correctly. And I'll just give you excerpts from the textbook, again, on the psychology of motivation, it turned out to be a lot. This article will focus on goals and what the average mortal needs to know about them. There will be no miracles, only facts, well, some of my explanations and examples.

What is the goal? is a conscious, planned result of activity, a subjective image, a model of the future product of activity. Goal setting encourages a person to make appropriate efforts to achieve it. The more specific the goal, the more strongly it encourages the performance of the activity. Highlighting intermediate goals has significant motivational value. In this case, the motive acts as a reason for setting certain goals. A goal, supported by a large number of motives, will have a stronger effect on human activity. But don't forget about rewinding.

Everything seems to be simple and clear here, but now the most beautiful thing that I found in the textbook is the goal setting scheme! The peculiarity is, and although you yourself will now see …

Effective targeting, how to set goals:

  1. The value of the goal (what is the purpose of achieving the goal, what it will give);
  2. Ways to achieve the goal (what methods and ways of achieving);
  3. Stages of goal achievement (intermediate goals and stages of their Achievements);
  4. Possible difficulties in achieving the goal and ways to prevent them;
  5. Self-control (forms and methods of control, how much the implementation meets the goal, how successfully the goal is being achieved).

Did you see? Well, say yes! Okay, most of all in this scheme, I liked the 4th point: Possible difficulties in achieving the goal and ways to prevent them. When I saw him, I just gasped! What does this mean and why is he so important to me? Yes, because everyone forgets about him, at these fashionable trainings about the goals, but in the textbook there is, and does not take money.

What is he for me, and remember in my article about motivation, there was a formula: Motivation = Motive + Situational factors … And I said that situational factors are taken into account, whether we like it or not. So, they are cute and they are. And for effective targeting, they need to be taken into account, after all. Before you rush into battle, you need to look around the battlefield. Nobody says to give up everything, if there are difficulties and possible difficulties, you just need to see them, know, and somehow cope with them. And it's better to know about it before, not during. You can't foresee everything, but the more you know, the more likely it is that you will be able to reach the goal.

Now let's talk about what helps us achieve our goals

Awareness of a goal increases the likelihood of achieving it. The ability to quantify performance results in a desire to improve on previous achievements.

Only one's own idea and an independently made decision induce a person to take bold and even risky actions that lead to a result.

A large task needs to be broken down into small and uncomplicated steps, and proceed to the next task only after completing the previous one. All steps are then accompanied by positive emotions. It is also important to record successes and failures for analysis and subsequent motivation.

Plans are often not implemented because a person lacks purposefulness, perseverance, courage, and he does not have the proper motivation to implement them.

Most people are focused on quick success. The process itself does not bring them pleasure. People are focused on quick success, and who are not able to enjoy the process, do not get due satisfaction from the result, are doomed to set new and new goals, and drive themselves from top to top without receiving proper satisfaction.

The success of the activity is combined with the optimal combination of courage and rationalism.

A deliberately set goal is capable of changing the structure of activity and overcoming or postponing mental oversaturation.

In the course of joint activities, people act bolder and riskier than individually.

What influences failure?

Failure is not something accidental, its causes should be sought in personal factors, in a low level of motivation, in a lack of competence. And a lack of effort.

Success is often associated with danger, anxiety, and frustration in the process, and can also lead to envy and aggression. Only those who can cope with this, and at the same time preserve their I, are able to maintain motivation for action.

Not believing in oneself leads to helplessness, which entails passivity, reduces motivation for activity.

Inadequate self-esteem can lead to very high or low predictions. In behavior, this manifests itself in the choice of too complex or too easy goals, in high anxiety, lack of confidence in one's abilities, a tendency to avoid situations of competition, non-criticality of the assessment of what has been achieved, in an erroneous forecast, etc.

What do we know about fear? And how does he help us achieve our goal?

When setting goals, we often talk about fear that "prevents" us from acting. It is interesting to note that fear has three stages: anticipation, relaxation, calmness. And fear is strongest in the first stage - waiting. The longer the waiting stage, the stronger the fear. When an active action occurs, there is no room for fear (emotional release in action).

Excitement (anxiety) depends on the person's opinion of their abilities and on the level of aspirations. But it should be noted that a moderate level of excitement has a positive effect on activity.

Surprisingly, fear and excitement help us to act. While we wait, the level of fear is HUGE, and the more we wait, the stronger our fear and anxiety. But if we start to act, take the first small step, then fear and anxiety go away. Conclusions, act, and you will not be scared!

And now, about the pleasant, about the success

Self-confidence (abilities) can increase a person's confidence in the effectiveness of his activities.

It is the level of a person's confidence in their capabilities that determines the motivation and effectiveness of activities. (Collins)

Simmeramn noted that the experience of success in work has a positive effect on the sense of their own competence (1990).

The success of the activity is combined with the optimal combination of courage and rationalism.

People who expect to be successful in performing an action do a better job.

And the formula for success, I love the formulas)

Success = Ability + Motivation for achievement + Situation (external factors)

Abilities are our knowledge and skills, in short.

I am here, without stopping, telling everyone about the situation, it is also clear here.

And here is the motivation for achievement, there is a separate formula:

Motivation for Achievement = Motive for Achievement + Chances of Success + Value of Success

How do you like the formula, huh? I am delighted. The motive for achievement is the desire to achieve a result, it is such an impulse, so to speak. The chances of success are exactly the 4th point in goal setting, in which all possible difficulties and ways to resolve them must be taken into account. And the value of success, this is new, this is the question “Why?”, Why should I achieve this goal? What do I get for achieving this goal? In fact, these are important questions that you definitely need to ask yourself, and write answers opposite each of your goals. So that by chance you don't waste your energy on something that you don't really need. And how do you understand that it was not necessary for you, rightly so, you will not feel satisfaction from the result.

And another important point to achieve success. Many people think that effort is not a significant factor in success. And this is not so, I think so. Effort is more important than ability.

What qualities can help, learn to set and achieve their goals:

  1. Setting realistic but lofty goals for yourself;
  2. Understanding your strengths and weaknesses;
  3. Belief in the effectiveness of your own activities;
  4. Determination of a specific form of behavior that would provide an opportunity to achieve the set goals;
  5. Taking responsibility for your own actions and their consequences.

Here is such an article came out, I hope you have learned something new and important for yourself, and now you will set yourself only your own goals and achieve effective results. Good luck, and if anything, read S. Zanyuk's textbook "The Psychology of Motivation" and the Force will come with you!
