In the modern world of cosmopolitanism, the geographical mobility of the population is increasing so rapidly that no one will be surprised by living abroad. For some, this is just another vacation with their family, study or a long business trip. For others, it is a dream of life - to travel, study the history, customs, culture of other peoples, and perhaps it is forced emigration.

Undoubtedly, travel has a positive effect on the development and formation of personality. Getting into another society, a person, as a biological being, is forced to constantly socialize, thanks to the influence of those groups into which he falls. He has to navigate in a new environment, revealing in himself the "sleeping" before, character traits, acquiring new skills and abilities, training mental processes such as perception, attention, memory, thinking. Meeting and getting to know different people, the traveler most often interacts with them successfully: he easily finds a common language, spends a lot of time with new friends, adopts and shares life experience, learns, makes friends and even falls in love. All this happens due to the fact that a person is not squeezed into the framework of habitual and stereotypical behavior, as a "blank slate" he re-reveals his potential and presents himself in a new light. In psychology, this phenomenon is called "the effect of a random companion", when a complete stranger wants to tell his whole life, without expecting condemnation and misunderstanding in response.

But the medal has two sides, and any journey, especially a long one, has “underwater” psychological stones. Let's take a look at them.

Coming to another country, a person has to get used to a new way of life, rhythm and especially the perception of time. For example, southerners tend to savor and waste time, during the hottest hours of the day, lazily sipping tea in cafes or on terraces. At the same time, a northerner, who is accustomed to saving time, begins to get annoyed by the presence of such a "siesta", unhurriedness and empty pastime. After the euphoria of the first impression, there comes a sober assessment of the real situation. A person begins to compare what is better and what is worse here than in his native country. This thankless task also leads to irritation and an accumulation of stressors. Losing vigilance and trusting our innermost secrets to new acquaintances, we weaken our psychological defenses and become a hostage to the newly-made Padre. From here comes anxiety and a desire to end the relationship.

As mentioned above, a person is a biological being and he, as an organism, needs adaptation not only to society, but also to food and climate. For example, a tourist is very interested in new cuisine, and at first tries to appreciate all culinary delights, sometimes risking his health. With inexplicable persistence, she begins to undergo all possible procedures, from a harmless visit to spa salons and ending with massages and innovations of local medicine. All this can cause irreparable harm to health, both physical and psychological.

According to many psychologists, long-term living in a foreign country is stress and shock, which is comparable to the loss of a loved one, for example. As a result, some psychological disorders may appear, therefore, in a new environment and in a new society, a person begins to think and behave differently, which causes misunderstanding and irritation among other family members, forms conflict situations with relatives.

Here are some rules to help you quickly adapt in a foreign country and get a positive experience:

1. Before traveling, try to explore the culture of the country as much as possible. This knowledge will allow you to be not only the owner of good taste and a welcome guest. But they will also save you from some expectations and disappointments.

2. Do not lose your vigilance, be picky about your acquaintances. Listen more than talk!

3. Live here and now! Do not compare the time, what time is it here, and what time it is at home. Do not convert foreign currency into Russian money. Try to avoid phrases beginning with the words "and we have …". All this psychologically doubles you and does not give you how to focus on the new environment.

4. Be patient and considerate of your loved ones. Remember, it is also not easy and anxious for them to be in unfamiliar surroundings.

5. Do not rush to try everything at once! Stretch your pleasure to all of your living in this country. Then, at the end of your vacation, you won't feel bored or mundane.

6. Leave time for seclusion. A person needs to be alone even in a seething resort place. It is alone with oneself that a person's consciousness can sort and sort out all new information “on the shelves” and prepare for the perception of new information.

7. Learn the language! After all, the language barrier has not been canceled!

Bright, positive, useful travels for you!
