In this article I want to share my discovery about the gestalt approach.
It so happened that I "randomly" chose it as the main tool for my work. Frankl's existential approach has always been interesting to me, though.
But in the absence of it in my city, I tried what is - gestalt. I was inspired by how Gestalt was born in general, how Pearls created this concept, how he taught his followers. Maximum practice, theory as reinforcement. Something that I think is very important. A psychologist is, first of all, a person who helps other people with his work. The profession itself requires a lot of practical experience, training in mastery and important skills.
A psychologist is a person who chooses a “helping” profession. This says a lot about his personality. Most often, the fate of the therapist himself is traumatic. A happy person would hardly choose this niche.
So, people in helping professions are similar in the presence of codependent traits. Of course, their manifestation is very individual and unique. I'll tell you by example.
I love super tasks, hyperresponsibility, control …
And why gestalt? With a personal history like mine, I believe it is ONLY a gestalt.
Gestalt therapy involves building a relationship between therapist and client. Trust and healthy relationships are formed. Therapy takes place in the here-and-now moment. Any client's problem can be solved in the present moment, in a relationship with the therapist. And then this is a very effective therapy: not digging into the past, not making plans, but working in the present. Immediate solution and study of the existing problem. Work only with topical.
It is the peculiarity of the relationship between the therapist and the client that is "treated". When we have an equal responsibility, when I do not have a task to control the process of changes in the client, when I do not set myself a super task - to understand the client's unconscious - I get the experience of healthy relationships, and I give this experience to the client! We are in an equal, interdependent relationship. We "treat" each other with the experience of sharing responsibility! (The therapist is still largely due to knowledge).
In the psychodynamic approach, for example, the position of the therapist is higher than that of the client. The therapist has some kind of influence on the client. Working with the material of the unconscious, the therapist draws conclusions, and gives the client tasks (often homework) - controlling the process of changes. Thus, this option of work strengthens the therapist's codependent part and the client's dependent part. This is not for everyone.
I decided for myself for sure - the experience of RELATIONSHIP is valuable for me, the recognition of the equal value of my client and me. A therapeutic relationship is real LIFE. What could be cooler?
It is in Gestalt therapy that I feel the drive and pleasure. Because every time it is in a new way, every time it is unknown. Risk, uncertainty, lack of structure, actual processes, equal roles - everything is like in life!
For me, only "living" gestalt, with a thrill from every moment of life!

Working With A Dream In The Format Of The Gestalt Approach. Case Presentation
Analysis of this session posted with client permission. Friends, I want to show you working with a dream in the format of a gestalt approach. We studied this technique during our student days, in the course of practical psychology. Since then, I have periodically used a useful approach.
Working With A Symptom In A Gestalt Approach
The psychosomatic approach is based on the idea of the connection between the body and the psyche. The existence of this kind of connection was known for a very long time. Ancient Greek philosophers have already written about this, discussing the nature of the disease.
Feminine Value. To Whom And What Were You Trying To Prove?
I'm so tired of fighting. For life … for your rights … for your value … And somewhere in the depths, the inner core shouted to her, “What are you… everything they do and don’t do, this should in no way affect your value of yourself. You have no one to fight with.
Powerlessness And Helplessness - What Is The Value?
Powerlessness and helplessness are unwanted guests and, often, outcasts, on the list of valuable experiences. Joy, for example, is pleasant to experience. And powerlessness and helplessness have no right to be and happen to me! Forbidding oneself to experience them, a person loses part of his humanity, loses the ability to accept and feel the warmth, tenderness, care of another person and to give them sincerely.
About The Gestalt Approach In Simple Words
I do not intend to talk here about the theoretical and practical aspects of the Gestalt approach, but I will write how I work in this direction. It is important for me that in gestalt a lot of attention is paid to the sessions actual feelings and feelings of the client , which allows you to live painful experiences with a psychologist and transform them into an experience that you can remember calmly.
