Synthetic drugs have begun to exert their detrimental effect on young people due to their availability and cheapness. These chemicals are named differently (spice, salts, smoking blends, designer drugs, synthetics), and the way they are taken is also different. Due to its chemical composition, this drug can be absorbed through any mucous membranes in the body.
For the development of mental and physical addiction, one dose is enough. The toxic substances of synthetic drugs remain in the body for a long time, there is increased physical and mental activity, mood swings - from a feeling of euphoria to deep depression. All this leads to depletion of the body, dysfunction of the brain.
Once in the human body, a synthetic drug imitates the work of neurotransmitters in the brain and forms a connection with two types of cannabinoid receptors, i.e. the drug is included in the metabolic system. With the use of large doses, there is a massive death of neurocellular structures.
The following processes are violated:
- The work of higher mental functions: violation of short-term and working memory, thinking, speech and perception. It becomes difficult to concentrate, speech is confused, the course of logical reasoning is disrupted, the level of intelligence decreases, the ability to control active attention is lost.
- Movements become chaotic, coordination is impaired.
- The threshold of pain sensitivity decreases. In a state of drug intoxication and for the first time after quitting drug addicts can cause themselves physical injury and mutilation, without feeling pain.
- The work of the immune system: the resistance to disease-causing factors decreases. The body's defense mechanisms are weakened, which leads to the occurrence of various diseases.
- Disruption of the autonomic nervous system, which is responsible for the functions of internal organs and endocrine glands, can manifest itself in a different range: from malfunctions of the heart and respiratory system, to surges in blood pressure and body temperature, insomnia, and reproductive disorders. On an emotional background, this is reflected as a feeling of anxiety, unfounded fear, increased irritability, acute sensitivity to weather changes.
With prolonged use of synthetic drugs, these violations become irreversible. In this case, during the rehabilitation process, psychotherapy alone becomes insufficient and it is recommended to consult a psychiatrist-narcologist who can study the effects of the drug on the brain and prescribe additional treatment with pharmacological drugs.
