Why I am a business coach

The modern world has become very fast, even too fast. Often we do not have time to follow the changes that are taking place next to us. The means of communication are developing: social networks, mobile telephony and the Internet. It has become much more convenient and cheaper to travel around the world. Life has become more convenient and comfortable. The downside of high speeds is the increased level of unpredictability. The world has not only become faster, it is accelerating. Zuckerberg moved the youth get-together to the virtual world and created Facebook. Jobs and Gates made information technology accessible to everyone. What does tomorrow prepare for us?

Even 30-40 years ago, when my parents were young, time passed more slowly, significant events occurred less often, the future was much more certain. They studied at school, institute and knew that they were studying what would be useful for them in life. When I was finishing my education, I began to understand that what I know, for the most part, will be of little demand in society. Now, when my children are studying at school, I understand that the main thing that they can take out of there is the ability to learn.

The world is changing rapidly, and what was previously super-necessary and in demand may now be useless. My children will never use a pager; it will be on the same shelf as a gramophone. It is the ability to learn that is the skill that gives a good education.

Learning is difficult. Extremely difficult. Mastering new things is generally the most laborious intellectual activity. With the development of information technology, there is no longer a problem with the availability of knowledge. If desired, in the "world wide web" you can find comprehensive information on any issue. The main difficulty for a person is to master and apply what he already knows. A coach is a specialist who helps to learn.

In my work, I strive not only to give new knowledge, although this is very important. Teaching other people to translate their theoretical knowledge into practical skill is critical. Of course, this approach is a big challenge for any coach. It’s impossible to teach another person what I don’t do myself. It is impossible to teach other people to learn, if you do not constantly learn yourself, if you do not constantly improve in your business.

Already, success is achieved by those who are constantly learning and mastering new things. The time of narrow specialists is passing. Career growth is much faster if a specialist has skills from different areas of life. Now you will not surprise anyone with the fact that an engineer is mastering sales skills, a programmer is studying management and psychology. Conversely, a designer learns to program, while a lawyer and accountant learn information technology. Nobody can say for sure what professions and skills will be in demand in 20-30 years. Only one thing is obvious: the main thing is not what a person knows and is able to do, but how quickly he masters new areas of life. A business coach is a person who has succeeded in his own business, whether it be sales, information technology, management, marketing, and wants to pass on his experience to other people, those who have succeeded in something else.

Even now, professional success is weakly related to the received education. The overwhelming majority of people in our country do not work in their basic profession. The field of business education is developing rapidly. Employers spend a lot of money to train their employees.

A good business coach is not a mentor who leads a person to a given goal and knows in advance how and what to do better. A good coach is one who helps his students to make the complex simple, the difficult to understand, the theory to put into practice. This is a person who studies with his students.
