A person's self-esteem determines a lot in his life. It is a key tool that is a starting point in the search for ways to achieve goals, it is a lever for achieving goals. It is through self-esteem that a person's system of values is determined, his aspirations in life, and then a person can achieve goals and in what ways, he will achieve them, success or not success in society, achieving the desired, harmonious development. That is why its role in personality development is almost impossible to overestimate.

Self-esteem is an interesting systemic phenomenon that is a value attributed to a personality based on various parameters (actions of a personality, ideas about oneself, reactions of other people to a person and many other factors).

Self-assessment functions:

· Regulation. Responsible for making personal decisions, the protection function ensures personal stability and independence;

· Development. This function is a kind of jolt mechanism that directs the individual to personal development;

· Protection. Actually, the protection and preservation of a person from all kinds of threats. This function plays a significant role in the formation of an adequate / overestimated / underestimated level of self-esteem and lies in the assessments of the person around him and his achievements.

Self-confidence and self-esteem

Evaluation of actions, qualities, actions occurs from the earliest age period. It can be divided into two components: an assessment of one's own actions and qualities by others and a comparison of one's own goals achieved with the results of others.

In the process of realizing one's own actions, activities, goals, behavioral reactions, potential (intellectual and physical), analyzing the attitude of others to oneself and personal attitude towards them, a person learns to evaluate his own positive qualities and negative traits, in other words, learns adequate self-esteem.

For some, this "educational process" can drag on for many years and decades. But you can increase self-esteem and feel confidence in your own potential and strengths after a fairly short time, if you understand how you need to competently work with your self-esteem.

Personality traits of self-confident people

- recognize their own achievements;

- always express their own desires and requests in the first person;

- they positively assess their own personal potential, define difficult goals for themselves and achieve their implementation;

- all actions are brought to life as needed, without endless postponement.

- they are easy to understand;

- take the expression of their own thoughts, desires seriously as well as other people's words, desires, they are looking for joint ways to meet common needs;

- consider the achieved goals as success. In cases where it is not possible to achieve what they want, they define more realistic goals for themselves, learn a lesson from the work done. It is this attitude towards success and failure that opens up new opportunities, gives strength for subsequent actions in order to set new goals;

Types of self-esteem:

There is a normal self-esteem, that is, adequate, low and overestimated (inadequate). These types of self-esteem are the most important and defining. After all, it depends on the level of self-esteem how sensibly a person will assess his own strengths, qualities, actions, deeds.

The level of self-esteem consists in giving excessive importance to oneself, one's own merits and defects, or vice versa - insignificance. Many people mistakenly believe that high self-esteem is good. However, this opinion is not entirely correct. Self-esteem deviations in one direction or another rarely contribute to the fruitful development of the personality.

Low self-esteem can only block decisiveness, confidence, and overestimated - assures a person that he is always right and does everything right.

- Heightened self-esteem. People with a high degree of self-esteem tend to overestimate their own real potential. Often they think that the people around them underestimate them without reason, as a result of which they treat those around them arrogantly and arrogantly, and sometimes quite aggressively. They constantly try to prove to others that they are the best, and others are worse than them. We are sure that in everything they demand recognition of their own superiority. As a result, others tend to avoid communication with them. There are two main hallmarks of high self-esteem: groundlessly high self-judgments and increased levels of narcissism.

- Low self-esteem. Usually such people show excessive self-doubt, shyness, excessive shyness, shyness, fear of expressing their own judgments, they often experience baseless feelings of guilt and shame. Such people are quite easily suggested, they always follow the opinion of others, they are afraid of criticism, disapproval, condemnation, censure from the surrounding colleagues, comrades and other subjects. Often they see themselves as failures, do not notice, as a result of which they cannot correctly assess their best qualities.

- Adequate self-esteem. It makes a person a self-confident person. The coincidence of ideas about one's own potential and one's real capabilities is an adequate self-assessment. Formation of adequate self-esteem is not impossible without taking actions and subsequent analysis of these actions. A loop of positive experience is formed and, as a result, a person begins to believe in his own success. As a result, a person defines a set of goals for himself, and to achieve them, he chooses adequate means and achieves the set goals.

There are many parameters for self-esteem, but at a basic level these will suffice:

- floating and stable. Its type depends on the mood or success of a particular person at a certain period of his life.

- general, private and specific-situational, in other words, indicate the scope of self-assessment. So, for example, people can evaluate themselves separately according to physical parameters or intellectual data, in a certain area, such as business, personal life, entertainment and recreation, etc.

Also, in a nutshell, I would like to touch on the topic of self-assessment diagnostic methods.

In a general sense, diagnostic methods are focused on determining the degree of self-esteem, its adequacy, on studying general and private self-esteem, on identifying the ratio of the real and ideal “I” images. Also, the techniques help to determine: the level of self-esteem, its stability or instability, self-esteem argumentation, evaluative position, types of personality self-esteem (underestimated, overestimated, etc.);
