For myself, ignoring to some extent methodological rigor, I single out two theories of creativity: "sublimation" and "self-actualization". The names don't strictly hint at Freud and Maslow, they're just pretty.
The “sublimation” theory says that creativity is a product of difficulties, difficulties, compensations, problems, “a well-fed artist cannot be creative,” and so on. Very often my clients adhere to this theory, claiming that they owe that voice inside, which pointed out to them all their mistakes, miscalculations, called them various beautiful words, and, thanks to him, they achieved everything that they have, otherwise they would have vegetated there. where they came from. In the schema-therapy psychotherapeutic approach, this voice is called the "critic" voice. This is part of the parents' remarks learned in childhood like “good girls / boys don’t do that”, “what kind of person are you”, “behave yourself!”, “I am ashamed of you”. When we hear the voice of a critic in our head, we feel shame, guilt, we are visited by thoughts that we are not worthy of something, that we are “abnormal, that something is“necessary”,“must”,“must”,“stop studying nonsense is necessary … ".
And many believe that this is a wonderful motivation for a successful life. And all that they achieved was done by the critic himself. But instead of the critical part, we also have the voice of the “healthy adult part”, which behaves differently and must take care of our “inner child” - that is, all our desires and needs.
I am an adherent of another, "self-actualization" theory. There is a theory about basic needs in schema therapy. One of them is the need for spontaneity and play. It is actualized when all previous needs are satisfied - secure attachment, autonomy, free expression of emotions and needs and boundaries. Only when they are satisfied is the child truly spontaneous and able to play. And that is creativity - when your inner child is playing. But for this he must feel loved and confident. Then his natural spontaneity will manifest. The voice of the critic in the head, on the contrary, frustrates all of the above needs, making the legitimacy of the child's existence dependent on the fulfillment of some requirements. Here, I recall the lectures of the beloved teacher of our Ukrainian faculty, Yaroslav Ivanovich, when he told how, in the dashing nineties, as a consultant, he was asked to bring the company to the level of needs for self-actualization according to Maslow, and he answered that if there is no security, then what kind of self-actualization can be …
Of course, a person is able to create even when he feels bad, turning, “sublimating” pain into works of art, but this is hardly the kind of creativity that brings happiness and satisfaction with life. For example, in my picture of the world, Elon Musk's work does not come from the stick of a critic, but from a happy and spontaneous inner child, who is protected by a strong “healthy adult”. Therefore, he steadfastly endures all the failures and goes to his dream - so that rockets fly to Mars, cars go from electricity, and so on.
Therefore, I will remain an adherent of the second theory of creativity in my life and practice.
Creativity to you!

Psychology Of Creativity. I Can't Create Every Day
I am a writer and I myself believed in writing every day. And when it didn't work out, I felt alternately a sense of guilt (before a book, society, a muse), a feeling of anger, confusion, misunderstanding, disappointment. Apparently I'm not trying hard.
Anxiety And Panic Attacks. The Importance Of Creativity In Overcoming Them
A panic attack is extremely difficult, if not impossible, simply to crush by willpower. You can't just say to yourself “don't be nervous” and thus extinguish everything. This can work if the frontal cortex has a calming touch, and you automatically believe that everything is not so scary and everything is surmountable.
"MAMA" - Constitutional Theories. Healthy Psychosomatics
Initially, this article was a continuation of a series of articles on depression, and in particular was devoted specifically to the psychological causes of postpartum psychosomatic disorders. But in the process of writing, one way or another, it all boiled down to the fact that these problems are constantly based on unjustified expectations, and not only from the child and loved ones, but in fact from myself.
An Artist Lives In Every Child! Suppression Of Children's Creativity
Answer to the question from the title: stop devaluing the artist in yourself! Everywhere I notice that modern society has a pathologically low noise tolerance threshold. Children are taught to behave "quieter than water, below the grass"
Mom's Creativity Or Stages Of Creativity
The most creative community is not architects and web designers at all. This is Mamie. I'll prove it now. Mothers - who is this? These are young and not always experienced women who suddenly have a very demanding Client. He does not have days off, one constant strategy of behavior.
