I am sure that today our country as it is today would not exist without the volunteer movement. Without that very mass of active people who, using their energy, time, personal and attracted funds, moved the Maidan, fed, shod, supplied, technically equipped the army, supported the wounded, displaced persons and much more.
Today in society there are often diametrically opposite points of view on participants in the volunteer movement. Either idealization - "heroic self-sacrifice", or, on the contrary, devaluation and belittling - ranging from simply "idiots, they have nothing to do", ending with stories on the volunteers who profited from the collected "people's" money.
What's in reality?
The beginning of the volunteer movement was sharpened by the events of 2004, during the Orange Revolution. Euro 2012 contributed to the awakening of the national pride of Ukrainians - remember it was then that Ukrainian flags and other symbols began to appear en masse. The snow in March 2013, which paralyzed Kiev and many other cities, made many feel how it is to help others, and to receive this help, in the conditions of the helplessness of state structures.
Maidan was an example of a mass volunteer movement - the organization and arrangement of the camp, food, supplies, etc. - from organized groups - Demalliance, Right Sector, to grandmothers who brought borschik and pies. (for example, the author of this text brought firewood and gasoline). And the victory of the Maidan was ensured by a massive volunteer movement.
Returning to the spring of 2014, volunteers have become a fast-paced and effective "rear service" for a semi-existent army. It was largely thanks to their efforts that it was possible to turn the armed forces into truly combat-ready formations.
That is, in fact, thanks to the massive volunteer movement, Ukraine remained to exist as a sovereign state.
On the other hand, the volunteer movement currently "helps" the ineffective old management system to stay afloat, closing numerous holes, serving as props for the rotten, thieving bureaucratic system.
It is difficult to overestimate the role of the volunteer wave in the formation of self-awareness of the Ukrainian society - this is clearly seen in the example of the transformation of the saying “my house is on the edge”, which was continued - “I’ll be the first to watch.”
Meanwhile, volunteers are ordinary, completely normal people who need to eat, drink, dress, receive status and public recognition. The lack of transparency about the “livelihoods” of the volunteers themselves gives rise to stories of “theft” of the money raised. It is obvious to me that "professional" volunteers MUST receive, among other things, material bonuses for their activities - otherwise they will die out, psychologically and physically.
I believe that it is important to understand that everyone engages in “volunteering” for themselves, satisfying their own needs - for example, a lifeguard complex, a sense of belonging to the “right” or “positive” group, and gaining respect from others. Own power, because individual volunteer groups have significant financial resources. And here we are talking about power, competition and other ordinary feelings. And now competition for finances - money from the population, sponsors, government funding, grants from abroad - is a harsh reality, and it is right to speak about it openly.
The penetration of volunteers into the system of state power is one of the mechanisms for transforming this system, and on the other hand, obtaining an official status that satisfies the need for recognition.
The emergence of new figures, heroes from the volunteer environment in the long term should lead to a change in the rules of selection for power structures - from "negative selection" - when the system was built on personal loyalty, mutual responsibility, embezzlement, to "positive" - professionalism, involvement, responsibility.
The volunteer movement, as the basis of the emerging new political forces, can become one of the engines of changes in our society.
Another important point is the creation of a society of civic responsibility, the backbone of which can and should be active participants in the volunteer movement.
So, ordinary people, with their complexes, fears, desires, feelings, have created a "parallel reality" of the power system imprisoned for total theft and corruption. And now, in fact, there is a clash of these decisive and creative people with the multi-headed hydra of the state apparatus. We wish us all good luck in this difficult struggle and do not forget that each of us remains an ordinary person who needs recognition, love, life meanings, and means for a decent life.

Keep Your Head Down! Be Nobody
If you want to avoid criticism, don't do anything, don't say anything and be nothing. Being uncomfortable is very uncomfortable. You rub this way out of anxiety, despair and powerlessness. Not for the faint of heart. Especially not for the faint of heart, because being uncomfortable is deliberately subscribing to rejection, envy and ridicule from the outside world.
