The term depression has become so common that modern people do not go to the doctor to diagnose themselves. It is enough to feel the autumn blues, an unsuccessful deal, a breakdown in strength and mood, as thousands of people independently admit that they have depression.

However, real depression is something completely different, much more complex and lasting.

Depression Is currently the most common mental illness. Depression is a condition that lasts for a long period of time, from several weeks to several months or years. A depressed person is sad, pessimistic, depressed, one might say inhibited, his movements are slowed down, as are his speech and perception of the world around him. Consciousness is narrowed - all thoughts are busy experiencing their state or the reason that led to it.

Depression manifests itself as apathy, unwillingness to live, inability to experience positive emotions, lack of strength, refusal to contact with the outside world. Inside, such people feel emptiness, abandonment and uselessness. Even doing ordinary daily activities becomes a burden for them.

Depression is diagnosed more often today than it used to be. This is probably directly related to the rhythm and way of life of a modern person, in which there is no room for understanding one's own meaning, thinking and the meaning of one's own life.

Often, a depressive state scares a person in and of itself. The feeling that he was left alone with his experiences and thoughts, pushes to the idea of hopelessness, hopelessness, a dead end in life, which further aggravates the depressed state.

Psychiatry views depression as a serious mental illness. There is a clinical interpretation of diagnoses associated with depression. This article is a psychological perspective on this condition.

Depression pulls a person into a black whirlpool, from which a person mostly lacks strength on his own.

Many turn to specialists for help when life becomes so unbearable that suicidal thoughts appear. Wanting to escape from the black whirlpool, people take antidepressants and tranquilizers for months, but the normalization of the physiological state - sleep, reduction of anxiety and fear, does not give that psychological feeling of full life, self-worth, return of feelings. Therefore, drug treatment alone is often not enough.

According to statistics, almost every person who has reached adulthood has experienced a depressive period of life at least once in his life. That is, depression does not choose people by status, wealth, age or nationality. All over the world, people of different social strata of the population, regardless of the season, are diagnosed with depression.

Why, then, does it arise and pass for some, and for many it torments for a long time?

The explanation can and should be sought in the origins.

As with any state or event in life, people come to a state of depression by different paths of life:

  1. For some, this is a relatively small turning point in life;
  2. For some, a depressive outlook on life was formed in the early years of life and therefore a person has no other alternative to understanding himself in this world;
  3. For some, depression is a genetic disorder and it is inherited.

Thus, based on the practice of my work, people with depression come for help when:

  1. Depression is the experience of a life crisis. Loss of the meaning of life, the experience of the loss of life guidelines, values, goals.
  2. Depression is the experience of a state of melancholy. The inability to survive the loss, the loss of a loved one, a loved one, parting with him. This form of depression speaks of a certain formation of the psyche. For an ordinary person, the process of grief, grief at loss takes a certain period of time, on average a year, and then the person returns to the usual way of life, leaving a place in his memory for the person whom he has lost. In the case of melancholy, not only loss, but also parting with a loved one cannot be experienced for years, leaving an unhealed wound in the heart.
  3. In clinical forms of depression, such as the manifestation of bipolar disorder, etc. This is a mental illness. People with bipolar disorder are particularly at high risk of dying from suicide. The disease is based on a genetic predisposition.

Since the formation of depression occurs in different ways, then the way out of it is also possible by different ways. In some cases, especially in bipolar disorder, compulsory drug treatment is necessary, in some, psychotherapeutic assistance of a specialist is sufficient to improve the condition. I would like to emphasize that in any case, for most people suffering from depression, this is not just a small insignificant episode of life, but a part of the entire life of a given person. Perhaps this is a permanent part of it, as in the case of bipolar disorder, or temporary - in the case of an age crisis, and a competent diagnosis of the essence of depression makes it possible to competently targeted psychotherapeutic assistance.

What opportunities does a person who is immersed in depression have?

Any state, relationship and life twists and turns of our life tell us something. This also applies to depressive states. And, if in youth it is possible not to pay attention to them, to write off other persons to be involved in their occurrence, then with age it remains

two life paths for people with depression:

First - continue to displace, ignore, not understand and not recognize the fact of impartial traits of one's own character and peculiarities of one's own psyche, to deny the very possibility of changing one's own character, that is, to leave everything as it is - unchanged, not to make one's own efforts to improve one's depressed state.

Second - to learn to understand their depressive states that cause pain and suffering, to get acquainted with eye-to-eye with the peculiarities of the manifestation of their mental life, that is, their character, including a depressive outlook on events and life; realize their own role in a depressive attitude towards life and develop a more acceptable, conscious new life strategy. Naturally, the second path is fraught with a lot of diligence and stress, but in return it opens up more life opportunities and prospects, which people suffering from depression certainly have.

Summing up, I want to note that the depressive position of people is mainly due to the fact that at this time people do not see or do not understand the meaning of their existence and do not have a stable self-image of their own, but this does not mean that this meaning of life cannot be found. over time, or that a conscious self-attitude cannot be created.

Therefore, to the question: "Is it possible to live with depression?" - the answer is unequivocally affirmative, of course, you can. The question is: how? How to live with depression? How does a person want to live: to continue to prolong his own depressed state or does he want to qualitatively change something in her?

What path in life do you choose for yourself?
