It is interesting that by self-esteem many people understand: "Why do I respect myself?"
Respect for Others - "Why do I respect other people?"
In my opinion, speaking of respect, it is important not "For what …", but "How …"
Self-respect. How?
Respect for others starts with self-respect. By respecting myself, I respect others. By respecting myself, I respect the world around me. Self-respect comes in two forms: relating to my body and personality.
Body attitude - taking care of your body, physical health and appearance. Ability to lead a healthy lifestyle. Lack of exercise, drug use, alcohol abuse, eating and sleeping disorders are not healthy lifestyles.
Attitude towards one's personality - the development of one's personal qualities, professional development, care for psychological health.
- The ability to manage your feelings, to cope with your anxiety, anger.
For example, self-flagellation is disrespectful to yourself. Screaming in anger and offending others is also disrespectful. - Developing the ability to manage your desires and needs. - The ability to anticipate the consequences of your actions. - Being honest with yourself - The ability to maintain mental balance when conflicts. Respect for others. How?
How is respect for other people manifested - the ability to perceive people holistically, recognition of the feelings, needs of another, his merits, his boundaries, regardless of age, gender, status, financial well-being. Not causing harm, both physical and moral. Respect for the values and worldviews of others. The ability to see an autonomous person in another. Ability to empathize with others and give competent support if asked (not to save, "catch up and do good")
If I respect myself, I will respect my partner (husband / wife), parents, children, colleagues.
I will not yell at others, humiliate and insult them personally, or show physical aggression.
Example: Parents who beat their children show disrespect not only for their children, but also for themselves.
Parents who enter a teen's room by knocking on the door show respect for the teen's personality and boundaries.
Respect for the world around you is manifested:
- In maintaining order and cleanliness of the surrounding world.
For example, leaving garbage after a picnic is not respect for yourself and nature.
- Respect for the animal kingdom, caring for animals.
Practice. As usual my favorite work with lists.
Make a 1st list. How I respect myself Respect for the body Thoughts - feelings - actions Respect for the individual Thoughts - feelings - actions Make a 2nd list. How I respect others.
Dear readers, I wish you a bright summer

We are perfect in our imperfection. Perhaps this is the only perfection that is present in us. We most often see our imperfection in others. They say that people are our mirrors.
