The reasons for overeating aren't just biological. It's not just genes, inactivity and metabolism that affect our weight.

2. The same relationship between stress and an episode of overeating: nervous - ate - let go.

The third group of reasons is social. We can resist the awareness of these reasons as much as we want, in the meantime they seriously affect our eating behavior. A big boss looks more representative, a plump woman gives less reasons for jealousy, a plentiful festive table speaks of the hospitality and hospitality of the owners …

Simply put, you love cake not just because it tastes good, but because it is in your nature to often choose to eat a delicious cake.

For example, to celebrate something. At the same time, others can choose a party. Or to cheer yourself up. However, others can choose a spa.

In my practice, there are cases when clients gained extra weight, unable to cope with the loss of a loved one. In these cases, food could replace the lost source of warmth and care. And also food helped to cope with anger, which is difficult to admit to yourself in such a situation.

There are similar reasons for young people to gain weight when they leave the parent's nest. I myself gained about 10 kilograms when I left my hometown to study at the institute. Internal emptiness can become a reason for overeating for women after a divorce.

Also, from practice, you can identify the relationship between overeating and nervous work. You cannot express anger to a disgruntled boss. But you can do this by crunching nuts, tearing off pieces of meat with your teeth. You can't immediately calm down after a busy day. And with a full stomach it turns out faster.

All these ways of dealing with our emotions were learned in childhood, when we were given candy in any difficult situation or as a reward. Therefore, now we use them often unconsciously.
