"For many years I have been a coffee drinker, constantly experimenting with varieties, roasting, I love trying new compositions on travels. I can't imagine a day without coffee and suddenly trouble! For health reasons, my doctor generally forbade me to drink coffee for at least six months. Help, I do not know how to literally be now, how to survive without your favorite drink! " - Irina.

Irina, we will not dwell here in detail on the effect of coffee on the body. On the one hand, your doctor clearly conducted an explanatory conversation, on the other hand, this is not the subject of your question, in which coffee mania comes first.

Let us turn to the dictionary, in general terms, mania - "a morbid mental state with the concentration of consciousness and feelings on any one idea."

It is this "stuck" that causes you violent emotions, up to the feeling of impossibility to live without coffee. Of course, you know that life without coffee is quite possible, unlike life without water. But the quality of life or, subjective in its essence, the feeling of satisfaction will suffer.

It is necessary to consider whether only tastes and smells, as an esthete, attract you to coffee, or is it also its stimulating effect?

If coffeemania is a part of your lifestyle as a connoisseur of beauty, you need to reconfigure yourself to the "new beauty", in no way, at the same time, without giving up pleasure, albeit not gustatory, but olfactory. You may have heard of coffee houses in Europe, where visitors inhale the finest aromas of coffee, but do not drink it for health reasons. You can also go the other way - use coffee aromas for the car interior or at home, as well as in cosmetics, for example, bath foams, scrubs. Then you will not have to pinch your nose when passing by the coffee shop so as not to break loose and go for a cup of coffee.

Agree - the aroma of coffee gives no less pleasure than its taste. However, one cannot fail to mention the psychophysiological dependence, which makes it difficult to give up coffee without experiencing "torment".

Even if it seems to you that you are drinking coffee solely for pleasure, it still, in a known way, affects your body. Caffeine stimulates the production of stress hormones, constant stimulation can have a bad effect on the state of the nervous system, blood pressure, and the immune system.

Caffeine addiction often has intrapsychic causes that are hidden from us.

In general, each of us can find at least one addiction, clearly expressed or disguised as something necessary, sometimes even useful. So far, I have not met people with a single addiction.

If, for example, we cannot start a procedure without performing a ritual (we cannot fall asleep without taking a shower, or we cannot sit down to work without drinking a cup of coffee), then we can already talk about a formed addiction.

Whether it is necessary to do something about this is directly proportional to the degree of discomfort if it is impossible to perform the ritual.

Where to start to become more independent of your ritual habits?

- From time to time, replace them with other, alternative ones and be sure to join the new, including new styles, ways of performing the usual rituals.

Coffee is a legalized psychostimulant and not everyone can cope with the abolition of coffee on their own, no matter how exaggerated it sounds. If the threat to your health is not as significant as the withdrawal of coffee, I recommend that you seek the advice of a psychologist. Be healthy and happy with and without coffee!
