Is it difficult to choose a profession?

On the one hand, no. Go to career counseling centers, do some tests, talk to a counselor, start preparing for college and … then the career will make itself.

On the other hand, there are much more factors influencing the choice of profession.

What can they be?

(1) family history and the rules for choosing a profession within the system: how did your relatives choose a profession, was it permissible to change it throughout life, whether they immediately entered universities or followed the path through vocational schools + experience, and then received higher education, as belonged to graduate school and in general - which specialties are "normal" and which are not? The unspoken rules within the family affect you.

(2) peer position: what professions and career paths do your friends choose? what seems to them to be the norm, and what is a strange path of development? Do you remember that there are those who choose their profession and university on the basis of friendship?)

(3) the position of mentors, teachers (and other “adults” that matter to you): what do they recommend? What are the directions and ways? Why? What attracts you to this? By the way, often schoolchildren can choose some subject, because the teacher at his school is so in love with his subject, so interestingly talks about it … that it is impossible not to go further, but sometimes it turns out that in independent swimming the subject is not so attractive:)

(4) inclinations and abilities: an addiction is an activity that you enjoy, after which you have a good mood, which brings joy and satisfaction. Ability is what u. You do well, that is, you learned a new topic in neuroscience faster than anyone else, understood the rules, you can answer questions. Often, abilities are something that we do not value, because we “did not sweat” … The trap is that choosing a specialty that we like, but for which there are no abilities leads to the fact that even with the first difficulties, the component of joy disappears, and development the skill is very difficult, so frustration, anger, apathy comes

(5) the level of aspirations in life: not everyone needs a house on the coast of Como in Italy, not everyone wants to work in different countries, not everyone wants to perform feats of labor. It is perfectly normal for someone to work close to home, come / go on time and have a life EXCEPT professional. Any choice is normal when it is conscious and brings satisfaction inside.

(6) personal plans: they cannot be ignored, because professional plans must coincide with personal ones. Here I recall the words of one captain, who said that when choosing a profession, you choose a difficult family life, because pilots are often absent from home for a long time and it is difficult to maintain relationships even at the moment when there is video communication. And then the conscious choice of the sky and other "features" that come with this choice

(7) level of awareness of the profession: yes … the most difficult moment to comprehend. We must understand that the more we know about the profession, the easier it is for us to understand whether it is ours or not. In addition to knowledge, of course, it would be nice to get some piece of practical experience, so you can't ignore various business games, open days, some activities of professional groups. Through actions and experience, we in practice (through the use of all senses) understand what we like and what we don't. Until the moment of practice, we are imagining the understanding that we should probably like it. And then - either theory (= your assumptions) and practice will coincide or not. Then it will be necessary to make a decision, and what next, if they do not coincide.

Why this article?

I would like those who are thinking about changing their profession or who are choosing their first profession to see that the choice is a whole process that takes time, reflection, and awareness. Even understanding what is important and necessary for you will probably take several months. After the decision is made, there will still be other steps: choosing a university, preparing for exams, studying, first attempts and steps in a new profession, and only after that.. professional success.

Be conscious and choose a business in your life according to your soul, abilities, inclinations, desires and in accordance with other life goals:)
