How is the masochistic character different from the depressive, schizoid and paranoid?
Unlike the schizoid type of behavior, individuals with a masochistic and depressive character are more focused on relationships, they definitely need an object of attachment for an emotional connection. People of the schizoid personality type, on the contrary, withdraw into themselves, into their world of loneliness, into their own fantasies. They do not accept when they are approached too close, they often scare people away with their strange behavior.
With regard to the differences between masochistic and depressive nature, several characteristic differences can be distinguished:
1. Individuals with a depressive type of character have to some extent resigned themselves to their terrible fate, to the fact that everything in their life is so bad, and they deserve such blows. Masochists, on the contrary, cannot come to terms with injustice towards themselves, protest and consider themselves victims - they suffer undeservedly, they are simply unlucky in life. Why? The thing is that they were born under an unlucky star or they have "bad karma".
2. The inner emotional world of both characters is very similar - all-consuming deep feelings of sadness and guilt. However, a masochist, unlike a depressive character, protests against an unfair and bad attitude towards himself, he can get angry and express his emotions vividly.
3. Masochistic personalities are more active, in their behavior there is a kind of core that allows them to cope with their depressive feelings, to resist passivity and life isolation. Masochists are willing to endure pain, but they cannot come to terms with depression.
4. People with a depressive type of character are always left alone, shutting themselves off from the outside world. Masochists never consider themselves bad, they "take off" this burden from themselves, projecting a similar attitude from others - "It is not I who consider myself bad, you think so."
5. Masochistic personalities cannot live in a state of harmony with the surrounding world and loved ones, they cannot stand such a life and feel tense in it, therefore they are ready to do everything to be treated badly. The ideology of masochists is quite simple - it's not me who is evil, it's all around me who are evil.
When comparing masochists and paranoids, one can draw a certain parallel in their behavior - both of them have a strong orientation towards a threat, they feel the constant danger of an attack on their self-esteem, they are afraid of a physical violation of security boundaries. However, the reaction in the first and second cases will be completely different. People with a paranoid character stick to the line of attack: "I will attack you before you!" Masochists have another solution: "I will attack you first, but in such a way that you won't even be able to answer me!"
The paranoid and masochist are unconsciously absorbed in clarifying the relationship between power and love, but everyone's sacrifice is different: the first sacrifices love in the name of power, and the second - power in the name of love. Why? Masochistic personalities tend to direct their anxiety, anger, tension and fear towards a loved one with whom they are in a relationship. People with a paranoid character, on the contrary, project their feelings more often on strangers - for example, this person passing by, he is as if angry with me.
