All people lie. About how much they drank at a party. How often they go to the gym, how much these new shoes cost, whether they will read this book or watch the recommended movie. They tell the boss that they are sick when they are completely healthy. They say they will be in touch when they are not going to answer you. They claim that they are not talking about you, although it was you that they discussed. They say they love you when they really don't. They say they are happy, when in reality they are depressed. They say they like women when they prefer men. People lie to friends. Bosses. Children. To parents. They cheat doctors and husbands. They lie to their wives. They lie to themselves.
This is called "socially acceptable displacement" - to lie in society. But in real life, people lie in about a third of the cases, how much does the lie increase during virtual communication?
