Happiness. What a category that seems to be clear to everyone. I'm sure everyone will find a way to explain what the word "happiness" means. And all these explanations will be in many respects different and in many respects similar at the same time. Different - because it will be associated with the nuances of individuality, a unique value and ideological framework of the personality. Similar - because, in fact, different words will describe approximately the same - human.
Someone will say that happiness is a state. This view is most common.
For example, according to Alfred Hitchcock, happiness is a state that resembles a clear horizon, in which there is no need to worry about anything. This is the moment when there are only those components of life that are only constructive and not destructive in nature.
Someone would describe it as a process.
Eckhart Tolle, answering the question of what is real happiness, says that there is no future, no past, and calls it the process of "finding oneself." You can often hear that happiness is closely related to the process of implementing a plan, the embodiment of an idea dear to the heart, creative creation.
Someone will describe happiness as a kind of phenomenon.
Aristotle believed, for example, that happiness is the coincidence of a person's virtue and an external situation.
And someone will say that this is a goal that makes you move forward, seeking and striving to find this happiness.
This interpretation is also extremely common. Of course, there is a motivating component in it that stimulates movement forward. At the same time, one can easily see here an understandable danger - to spend life in a fruitless search, without ever starting to live.
I am quite close to the point of view of the French physicist Blaise Pascal, who recalled that happiness can only be in the present. Pascal noted that a person's thoughts are constantly directed to the past or the future, few people think about the present, but after all, a person who constantly thinks about the future only going to live happily, while losing the moment that takes place here and now.
Often, the “search” for happiness looks either as the striving of a person’s inner gaze to his past with the aim of “revising” the lived days for the presence of this happiness there, or as the striving of this gaze to the future, forward, with a full set of “expectation” effects. If happiness is sought in the past, then this can provide both a resource for a person in the form of warmth and gratitude to that past, and a negative fixation, expressed in longing for the irreversible, chronically aching pain from comparing "yesterday" and "today" in favor of "yesterday." … The second type of attitude towards "retrospective happiness" (negative fixation) succeeds, usually, without effort, as if naturally. The first one (warmth and gratitude) - in some cases, you have to learn.
The option of looking for happiness in the future, as mentioned above, is threatening with such consequences as "eternal rehearsal" of life instead of, in fact, life, the feeling of being like a Sisyphean labor, attitude towards one's existence in reality like "today is a draft, the best tomorrow will come - I will rewrite everything."
There is another variation of the "search" for happiness, when a person literally links his idea of happiness with a place (geographically), another person, some life milestones (position at work, social recognition, income level, possession of certain material items). peace and more, depending on what a person feels as his deficit - what he "lacks").
If we talk about the idea of linking happiness with a certain point on the map, I recall the following lines:
As if happiness grows in a foreign land, Like some kind of outlandish fruit
Searches for him in the distance and to this day
Various poor people."
These are the words from the song, to which it remains only to add, echoing the classics, that wherever a person goes, he takes himself with him everywhere, and therefore the idea of finding happiness through a change of places is drawn not completely reliable, although not completely unpromising.
The insidiousness of the hope of getting the cherished happiness in one set with a career advancement, income, marriage, the birth of a child or the purchase of a home is about the same as in the case of a change of places - circumstances will change from the outside, but what a person is from the inside will not change … It will be the same person, only with a new position, marital status, status, etc. Yes, of course, a period of emotional uplift will mark some important and long-desired change in life, but soon, most likely, everything will return to normal, and the habit of "expecting happiness" ingrained in blood and flesh will force a person to set a new, more difficult to achieve goal, a test goal, and link it with the achievement of happiness - "then, for sure …"
Of course, it is hardly necessary to claim the intention to give in this article an absolutely true interpretation of such a complex concept as human happiness, and to issue recommendations for achieving it.
I would like, perhaps, to share the observation.
Whatever happiness is - a process, a state, a phenomenon or something else, it is unlikely that you will be able to experience it without one ability.
Capabilities learn in myself this feeling - "I am happy". Right now, here - happy! And it is not so important what words you can convey this feeling, the main thing is that you will be familiar with happiness firsthand.
To develop this ability in oneself, the skill of recognizing happiness in oneself, you will need everything that is necessary for the development of any other human skill: a goal, attitude, motivation, a tolerable idea of the desired result, a plan, no, finally.))
I will take the liberty of assuring that such a skill is not difficult in training, everyone can do it. Well, unless, of course, there is no reason to hold fast to your "unhappiness" as a lifeline …
Probably, I do not open any America with these arguments - I just want to share my thoughts with you, dear friends! Just say - to to know, to know happiness, try to learn it learn. In the face.))
