Many of my clients say that going to a psychologist caused them panic and great discomfort. The very idea of going to a specialist gave them headaches and anxiety. But the current situation in their lives was more frightening, that they were ready to do anything to somehow alleviate their suffering and, finally, to get out of the abyss of troubles that haunt them.

I want to share with you a few examples:

(K) Client, P (psychologist).

Situation 1

- K: Hello! You know, I thought a lot and set myself up a lot to come to you. For me, a visit to you means that I am a weak person and cannot control my thoughts and feelings.

- P: So what made you come to me?

- K: I think I'm going crazy. It's hard for me to live with myself. My life has turned into a nightmare.

Situation 2

- K: Good afternoon, can I make an appointment with you?

- P: You can. Please tell us what is bothering you?

- K: I have been ill for a long time, have visited many doctors, passed a large number of tests, but they could not cure my ailment. Doctors say that my illness is associated with psychoemotional disorder and it would be useful for me to see a psychologist. To cure my illness, I am ready for anything.

Situation 3

- K: Hello, do you work with bindings? I have separated from my partner for three years now, but I still feel affection for him. My life has lost its meaning and I have no sense of joy without it. I do not want anything. I have no strength, I do not sleep well. Sometimes I have attacks of panic and fear. I can’t do this anymore, but I don’t know what to do. Therefore, I ask you for help.

Why did I give all these examples? First of all, to show you that everyone has problems and you are not alone in this regard. It is very difficult for most people to accept and admit that they themselves have turned their lives into a nightmare, but it is even harder for them to take the first step towards change, since the fear of the future, that there may be worse than now, prevails over reason and feelings. Therefore, most endure mistreatment, suppress their emotions and feelings, break themselves so as not to be abandoned and rejected, etc. In the end, they get even worse than they were. But there is good news, it is never too late to change, whether you are 15 years old or over 70, the main thing in this business is desire and patience. There are many ways to work on yourself. But today I would like to consider only one thing - working with a psychologist. To reveal its mechanisms of work and what you can expect in the process of interacting with it.

  1. Dear readers, I want to draw your attention to the fact that if you go to a psychologist, this does not mean that you are sick or not the right person. No one will diagnose you and say that you are not like that, throw away all these thoughts, they are useless.
  2. The psychologist is the person who will help you find the cause of your problem. After that, he will select for you various work tools that will help you solve your issue of concern. As a result, you will find calmness, good mood and strength to move on.
  3. Be prepared for a lengthy work process. Someone can be helped by one consultation, someone several years of work - it's all individually. Habits and thoughts you've developed over the years, be prepared to spend the same amount of time correcting them.
  4. A psychologist should be chosen as carefully as a hairdresser, worker, or other person who provides you with certain services. There is no need to give up if you come across an incompetent specialist or simply not suitable for you in spirit. After all, if you go to a bad hairdresser, that's no reason to never get a haircut.

Therefore, the choice of your psychologist should be approached responsibly and carefully.

And the last thing. Your result depends on working together with a specialist. If you ignore the task of your psychologist, do not listen to his recommendations and constantly forget about what you need to do, then only you yourself are to blame for the lack of results. A psychologist can give you many tools and ways to solve your problem, but he cannot do it for you. Inaction is also a choice, remember this

Our beloved readers, we, as specialists, study and practice a lot in order to provide you with professional assistance. There is no need to devalue our work. Our goal is to help you, not hurt you. Remember this!
