What do you know about psychoanalysis? No, really. Except for the bearded jokes about bananas, cigars and their sizes. Except for the well-known couch. Except Freud and his "reservations", noticed with childish joy from colleagues and slightly friends at parties. We are used to being afraid of him like fire, because in the public sense it is something terrible, incomprehensible and almost shameful
Psychoanalysis is not about uncovering the facets of femininity, gaining unshakable confidence, or not ruining karma with a quarrel with your husband. It's about needs. It's about secrets. About what it is embarrassing / bitter / painful / unexpected to admit first of all to oneself. It is about how to relieve pain and survive it by planting new flowers on the scorched earth.
Psychoanalysis is not about good and bad, right and wrong. But that in all this is for you. Because you can deny your own feelings of envy and convince yourself of green thinking without accepting anger, resentment or shame as much as you like, but sooner or later they will break out and flood these concrete plains of shaky alluvial calm.
The worst demons lurk in quiet darkness. Any rustle coming from the depths of the dark forest will give you a hint. But dense dense silence will not give such a head start. And you will only have to guess and hope that she does not hide anything special. In everyday life, we rapidly fill any frightening minutes of silence: cleaning, jokes, music. But during the session, no one throws a lifebuoy from the news feed and listening to nostalgic music. So when the office is filled with leaden silence, fantasy enters the scene. And this is the clue, although it will not open all the doors at the same time.
It will not become a bright spotlight, turning it on for 50 minutes, you will examine in detail the contents of a cluttered closet. But it will become a flashlight to illuminate what is needed and navigate in it if something is needed.
Psychoanalysis is not about frantically choosing the right words and descriptions. But about how to be able to swim along the river of an almost meaningless and confusing, at the last moment grasping at the elusive straw of the most important and fleeting.
Psychoanalysis cannot be quick. If only because what has been accumulated, groomed and cherished all my life (fears, for example) cannot be corrected or even realized in two or three sessions. Therefore, when I am asked why psychoanalysis does not remove panic attacks in a couple of sessions, I am genuinely surprised.
Psychoanalysis is not three sessions and you feel uncontrollably relieved. Because no one begins to temper with an hour and a half swimming in the hole, because it is fraught. Because when people are left under the rubble of an apartment building, you need to act quickly, but carefully.
