We continue to analyze the most popular ideas about psychotherapy in society.

Psychotherapy is always pleasant and easy

Unfortunately, in the course of therapy, we often touch upon not the most pleasant things. Sometimes you have to remember old grievances, experience shame or fear, face reality as it really is. The process is not the most pleasant one. For me, it was like this - after six months of my own therapy, I was faced with difficult feelings. I wanted to leave, disappear, forget. But I brought it to therapy and that session was very promotional. Therefore, if suddenly it is difficult for you, try not to disappear, but to share your experiences with the therapist. Try it at least.

Therapist can't be sincere - it's impossible to be sincere for money … That is, the therapist's feelings and support are not real, fake.

Unfortunately, I cannot deny the existence of such therapists. Although, in general, the profession of a psychotherapist does not imply earnings as a key value. If you want to make quick money, there are many other professions for this - for example, a sales manager or an entrepreneur. In the end, you can even master one of the specialties in the IT sector at a basic level - this may take six months (or even less), but not 5 years, as in the case of psychotherapy. Before a therapist starts working, he needs to master a huge amount of knowledge and skills - which is why I practically do not know qualified psychotherapists who do not like their work. This is the essence of helping professions - the life history of these professionals has developed in such a way that they sincerely want to help people. And they invest a lot in it.

I cannot open up to the person I see for the first time in my life

I hear this phrase quite often when I communicate with clients before starting work. My answer is “And don’t.” In psychotherapy, as in any other relationship: people meet, get to know each other, get to know each other. And then they unfold. Jumping into the unknown with your eyes closed is really very risky. Therefore, before choosing a therapist, take a good look at him. Read his articles, go to his lecture, watch the video. Get to know. Ask all your questions. And take your time - set aside a few first meetings for yourself to meet. Haste in this matter can affect efficiency not for the better.

The psychotherapist is a Zen superman … Everything in his life is perfect.

As much as we want it, the therapist is just a person. He, like other people, has troubles - divorce, loss, shock, sadness and despair. Nobody can be insured from this. But it is important that in any incomprehensible situation your therapist has a therapist. These are the principles of the cycle of psychotherapists in living nature. Moreover, your therapist's lifestyle may differ from traditional beliefs. After many years of therapy, a person usually begins to see much more possible ways of organizing life and choose the most optimal one for himself here and now, even if it seems unusual to you.

Pies: Of course, this is just my subjective vision of the issue, based on my own observations, discussions, conversations with colleagues and the prism of the approach in which I practice (gestalt therapy).
