Are successful people born or made? Some argue that in order to be on the crest of a wave, you need to be born successful, while others, to the left and to the right, insist that success directly depends on the environment, and still others argue that success is the right thoughts and thoughts.

So what does success depend on? From the genes of our ancestors or from constant work on yourself?

I adhere to the idea that success is a daily hard work on yourself. And you?

Of course, I will not argue that the conditions that surround us do not in the least affect our life, but one of the components of success is precisely in controlling this influence.

A self-sufficient successful person in one beautiful moment came to the realization that he has the power thanks to which he can direct his life in the right direction. A clear understanding of this power is the first step towards success. A successful person clearly understands that his life does not depend on external conditions, but on the decisions he has made.

There are many examples of successful people who went against their environment and rose above their genetics. They made the decision to be successful and they became that way.

While working on this article, I remembered the movie "The Pursuit of Happiness", which tells the real story of Christopher Gardner, who managed to get out of the ditch of poverty, raising a baby son, at times without a roof over his head, and eventually become not only a millionaire entrepreneur, but also motivational speaker and philanthropist.

In his youth, Gardner, one might say, survived - he was looking for opportunities to put his son in kindergarten, often stood in line for soup and even slept with the child wherever he had to, namely in shelters for the homeless, in his office after closing, on a bench in the park and even at the Bay Area Rapid Transit Station in San Francisco, locked in a bathroom. All the while, Gardner worked as a trainee at Bear Stearns, trying to make ends meet in the hopes of one day achieving his dream of becoming a successful stockbroker. He did just that by founding brokerage firm Gardner Rich & Co in Chicago, Illinois, and becoming a multimillionaire.

The greatest example of someone who overcame living conditions and conditioning can be found in the life of Viktor Frankl, a survivor of the Nazi death camp. In that place of endless suffering, where everything earthly was taken away and only a naked body was left, Frankl discovered something very deep. He realized that the Nazis may have had the power to take away from him everything he owned, even his freedom, but they could not take away from him the last of his human freedoms: his ability to choose how he would react to emerging circumstances. Frankl said: โ€œThere is space between stimulus and response. In this space, our strength is to choose the path. Our growth and freedom are in our path."

In this purely human gift - the power to choose your path and direct your life - you will find the real key to success.

In conclusion, success is not genetics or environment, success is our reaction to circumstances and the decisions we make as a result.
