First of all, let us note that all children, even half-year-olds, have terrible dreams. But each age has its own nightmares, as well as its own fears in real life. For example, a two-year-old toddler is afraid to be alone, and his terrible dreams are connected with this; older children are afraid of monsters and darkness and they dream about horror stories about the same topic. The fact is that in a dream, a child (as, indeed, an adult), as it were, spies on the nightly work of the brain. And the purpose of this work is to collect into a single whole the information received during the day, information about the physiological processes in the body and past experience. Therefore, dreams are a reflection of the child's inner state: his anxieties and concerns, desires and needs, fantasies and interests, as well as feelings that the baby is not able to express in real life. Negative emotions received by the child during the day grow into a dream - only the plot and characters change. Most often, terrible dreams are prompted by superficial (everyday) reasons - events of everyday life that are emotionally significant for the baby. For example: the loss of a favorite toy, the loss of a pet, a change of place of residence, fear after the incident when a child is lost, "horror films" seen on television or heard from other children, unfair punishment. But it happens that the roots of nightmares go far into the depths - unconscious infancy or even during the prenatal period.

If unpleasant night visions come to the baby too often or the same dream has been repeated several times already, parents should find a connection between the real event and the nightmare: carefully, affectionately talk to the child about his dream and analyze what he heard. If the child cannot tell, let him try to draw his dream, mold his characters from plasticine, or choose a suitable character from the toys.

First of all, you need to take into account that children up to 4-5 years old live in their own, special world, where there is no division into reality and fantasy. Sometimes the child is even accused of deliberate lies, not taking into account the fact that the child's brain is physiologically not yet ready to create such sophisticated tricks. For example, when the little one comes and tells his mother that he ate the porridge, but in reality it turns out that the porridge is still on the plate, this means that the little one imagined: the unloved porridge has been eaten! And he believed it himself. It is the same with fears: if a child thinks that a monster lives in his closet, then no matter how much you shine a flashlight, showing that it is empty, the kid will still be 100% sure that the monster is sitting there. And all this migrates into dreams.

12 rules to help banish disturbing dreams

  1. There should always be fresh air in the children's room, especially at night, so provide it with regular ventilation.
  2. Organize a comfortable sleeping place for your child: nice bedding, favorite toy, next to it is a night light.
  3. Do not forget about cozy pajamas: natural, soft fabric, and on it - funny animals, delicate flowers, warm suns, funny kids, heroes of your favorite books.
  4. Before going to bed, tell your baby only good stories.
  5. Bathing in a warm bath with toys, sculpting from clay or salt dough, drawing with your palms on diluted starch, or simply painting with watercolors with your fingers on the tiles in the bathroom will also relieve the child's excessive stress and improve the quality of sleep.

  7. If the kid does not obey, do not scare him with an evil uncle or Babay - small children take everything literally.
  8. Always listen to your child and be respectful of his problems, even if they seem trivial to you. It is useful to play with the child with the help of toys difficult situations that have developed in his life during the day. I remember how my daughter refused to attend kindergarten at one time. She was about four years old. I didn't understand why. She could not explain. We played with her in kindergarten. We placed educator dolls and children.
