Inventory: a deck of metaphorical associative (projective) cards “To be. Act. Have."

Working time: 30 minutes.

Age range of application: after 16 years.

Work algorithm.

Introduction. A deck of metaphorical associative (projective) cards “To be. Act. Have. - half of the cards face up, the other half face up.

Main part.

Think about some important goal that is relevant to you at this time. Choose a card with an image that symbolizes your goal and place it in front of you.

Then think about your most striking personality traits. Choose five cards with inscriptions that contain those of your character traits that you like about yourself - let's call them positive traits. If you did not find any trait of your character among the inscriptions on the cards, choose a card with an image that reflects the trait we need.

Now choose five cards with images that symbolize those of your five character traits that you do not like in yourself - let's call them negative character traits.

Place positive trait cards on one side of your goal and negative traits on the other. Look closely at the resulting picture. Assess which of the character traits in front of you help, and which prevent you from achieving this goal. You may be in for a surprise. One of the possible discoveries at this stage is that you are who you are, and the chosen goal does not correspond to your personality, is not so important that you fight for it and sacrifice something in the name of its realization.

Now is the time to make a change in your picture of the interaction of character and purpose. Those traits that do not help you achieve your goal dictate certain behavior to you. What behavior would be effective instead? Find a card with a suitable label and cover with it the card that interferes with the achievement of your goal. And do this with every card that prevents you from reaching your goal. When all the interference maps are covered, carefully examine the resulting picture. If you need to add another card or card, add it. Remember the resulting picture and save it in your inner world in any way convenient for you. Then put all the cards in the box.

Conclusions. It is not always the character traits that we love in ourselves that help us achieve our goals, and it is not always the character traits that we reject in ourselves that prevent us from achieving goals. This technique helps to determine what is actually actively or passively preventing us from achieving a certain, important for us, goal and to outline ways to change our behavior or manifestations of character traits that interfere with the achievement of the goal. If such a change is unacceptable, get an answer to the question why the goal cannot be achieved, and, possibly, revise it.
