Let's say what happened to you panic attack and you started reading all the information on this topic. And now they found this article of mine. What will it be about?

I’m definitely not going to tell you how to deal with panic attacks on your own!

Because this is a disservice and, in fact, evil, which will encourage you to continue stewing in your own juice. Any attempts at self-help will sooner or later turn against you. It’s like getting out of the pit on your own during the rain, the wet edges of which will constantly collapse and the pit will only grow. Why?

This is how our psyche works - an iceberg 80% of which is under water.

What then does it make sense to talk about? About self-diagnosis! Whatever one may say, but for the most part people come to a psychologist already with a self-diagnosis and a couple more diagnoses from other specialists.

Self-diagnosis is less harmful than self-help. At the very least, it helps to find a qualified specialist.

So, let's move on to self-diagnosis for a panic attack. I will only speak here of neurotic spectrum disorders from my therapeutic experience.

Usually, panic attacks are encountered when:

- anxiety disorder;

- obsessive compulsive disorder;

- post-traumatic stress disorder.

How to distinguish?

IN anxious panic option is always there first panic! All further ones are based on this first case. The memory of him, an inexplicable premonition, triggers an attack. This first time, special and unexpected, cannot be forgotten. Most often, this attack leads to a mental scan of the body. As a result, the anxiety disorder sticks to one of the physiological processes: heartbeat, breathing, swallowing, urination, digestion, or erection.

Obsessive compulsive disorder can also cause panic. But in this case, there will be a gradual increase in anxiety due to obsessive thoughts or compulsive actions … OCD panic attacks are all about control and loss. If an anxious person focuses on controlling feelings, then an anankast person focuses on controlling thoughts. These thoughts are most often contrasting and unexpected.

What may indicate panic as a consequence PTSD? The first is itself recent trauma … In this case, the panic is triggered by a trigger situation associated with trauma or flashback. Post traumatic disorder has strong physiological symptoms - pains in different parts of the body and these pains are not expected. There will be no internal struggle with oneself and secondary benefits, but according to feelings PTSDWill be felt most closely as a somatic illness.

What is such a diagnosis for? To select the goals of psychotherapy.

In case of anxiety disorders feelings and relationships with people will immediately come to the fore. Work with childhood and relationships with parents will be effective.

At obsessive-compulsive option is more important thinking and the ability to think flexibly. Of course, everything will come to childhood and parents, but after thoughts and rituals stop increasing anxiety.

Work with the post-traumatic disorder it is work with bodily sensations. Immersion in childhood or a change in thinking will not help much here, and may even aggravate the condition.

Ask, is it not a psychologist or psychotherapist who should decide this?

Ideally? Yes.

But psychotherapy it is not just a cure. And the healing of the soul is not bone fusion, it requires efforts, cooperation with a psychologist.

Often people underestimate psychological problems, and any problem can turn into a serious disorder. Take care of your soul, because it may turn out to be immortal.
