Self-Criticism: Working with Self-Criticism in Scenario Therapy
Here is a short summary of scenario analysis and therapy on the path from self-criticism to self-support and self-acceptance:
- We understand the concepts. Self-criticism. I criticize myself. The question is: who is inside you and who is criticizing? Answer: Critical Parent is negative (Big Pig by Byrne) Inner Child. As a result, the Adaptive Child and the periodically Rebellious prevail in the personality structure. Creativity is suppressed.
- We understand the concepts. Self-support … I support myself. The question is: who is inside you and who supports you? Answer: A Nurturing Parent supports, praises, and shows concern through the action of the Inner Child. As a result, the Free Child grows and develops.
- Who criticized you and how in your early childhood? Defining parental figures and their double bindings. What did they say and what did they make you understand about you? An example of self-exploration is here.
- What have you learned about yourself? What messages have you absorbed? Whom do you copy, whose manner of criticism, when now you criticize and control yourself?
- What early decisions determine your path of selflessness? In what situations did you accept them, how do they affect yourself in your life?
- New adult solutions. We work with reference situations that determined the scenario "Without love" and self-suppression, self-criticism. It is possible in EOT, it is possible in the gestalt approach, it is possible to work by the method of directional visualization with a fork. We make new decisions. We heal the pain of rejection and rejection.
- Self-acceptance. We decide to take care of ourselves and support ourselves. We are writing new rules to consolidate this decision.
- Transformation. We transform the critical messages received in the course of work from steps 3 to 6 (Inner Critical Voice) into allowing YOU messages, which we fix as a New Caring Voice. An example of work here.
- Self-sustaining new life. We transfer new skills and solutions obtained in therapy into real life, we gain a foothold in self-acceptance and self-love.
- The pleasure of life. We receive a lot of energy, enjoy ourselves and life, give support to ourselves, ask for it from other close ones, share strokes with others.
These are the 10 steps I have for about 5 sessions of 1.5 hours online. Someone will stretch for a little longer - it all depends on the style of the therapist and the neglect and severity of the client's condition.
Recommendation: Despite the fact that part of the work (analysis) can be done by yourself, there are still a lot of pitfalls, dangerous currents and pain in such work, so start this important work with the support of an experienced specialist
