Probably, many do not admit it, but one of the main desires in life is to feel safe. Let this not manifest itself so clearly in everyday life as the need for food, money, and basic amenities. But if we take a closer look at all the factors of life, there will always be a feeling of security in the background. Whatever we turn to, everywhere you can see the moment of need in the absence of danger. We will not be calm if we have nothing to eat - there will be a feeling of threat. There is no social stability - it is impossible to exist normally in society. Abraham Harold Maslow puts the need for safety second. And it includes in this concept: comfort, constancy of living conditions, order, dependence, protection, freedom from fear, anxiety and chaos, stability.
Safety can be considered - being in conditions when the influence of external and internal factors on you does not carry negative and negative aspects. What then is the danger? Danger is the occurrence or the possibility of occurrence of events, circumstances that can cause various harm: moral, physical, mental, etc.
How can you constantly feel safe and avoid dangerous moments and events? Many people would like to never feel a sense of danger, not to get into difficult situations. But if you look at the lives of even the most prosperous people, there will still be a moment that they would like to avoid. I think there will even be several such moments in life.
Probably everyone will agree that our understanding and feeling of what is happening is formed in childhood. And, undoubtedly, our parents help us in its formation. The best they can do is preserve the integrity of the family. If they fail and the family falls apart, it takes a toll on the children.
Is only complete security enough for us to live and develop? Is that so? If this were true, then the most ideal place would be a prison. There are thick walls, strict order, enough guards and guards. But this is not the case. If you do not take extreme options, when people are afraid not only of their environment, but of themselves. We normally do not feel threatened for most of our lives. We, so to speak, are even fighting against it. We are constantly testing the world for strength. This is necessary for: clarifying our boundaries, the boundaries of others, for the process of cognition, and our development in general.
What to do when the feeling of danger is so great that it paralyzes us and does not give us the opportunity to live normally? There are many different ways to overcome anxiety and fear. Try to understand what makes you fearful. Try to avoid these irritants and do not go to those places (or events) where they are more pronounced. Strive for more certainty, plan, make a schedule, this will make life more predictable. You can go in for sports, it helps to relieve unnecessary anxiety and makes you feel better. You can also find a hobby, any activity that brings tranquility and happiness, this will allow you to channel the energy that is spent on fear in a “peaceful channel” and simply bring more peace of mind into your life. It helps well to surround yourself with calm, balanced, self-confident people, you can not only feel calm with them, but also learn from them calmness. It is important to remember that working with a psychologist or psychotherapist also has a beneficial effect on healing from unnecessary anxiety.
