Training (English training from train - to teach, educate) is a method of active learning aimed at developing knowledge, abilities, skills and social attitudes (Wikipedia)

At the same time, few people think about the fact that the so-called personal growth trainings bring results that are small and not for everyone. Their main task is to give a motivational charge and a desire for further development and transformation. The motivational charge, in turn, lasts no more than two weeks. If after the training within two weeks you managed to implement something, the training is useful. If you do not have time, then everything falls into place.

In my opinion, the participants in open trainings can be divided into several groups, each of which will have its own goal for attending such events, and the organizers come up with their own hooks for each:

1. "Motivational addicts" - yes, yes. These are the same regular visitors to trainings who attend all significant and not so important events in the city, actively discuss their trips on social networks. They come for drive, for atmosphere, for impressions. It is for them that the coaches come up with different tricks and tricks so that the "training" will be remembered for a long time. If the participants are asked about the result, they will say - “It was great, great, fun, active”. They will not be able to clarify exactly what they have learned. But they will happily come to the next program. It's important to be trendy.

2. "Deserters" - These are those who try to escape to trainings from their personal reality, not to think about the negative influence of the environment. They secretly hope that after the training all troubles will disappear by themselves, the influence of world news will cease to act and the exchange rate will also become unimportant. The main thing is movement! They love to make new acquaintances, change their environment. When the harsh reality reminds of itself, they go to a new training.

3. "Fans" - go to all trainings, regardless of the topic, but to one favorite coach or to the same training company. The learning outcomes largely depend on the personal motivation of the participants and the professionalism of the trainer. Fan loyalty is supported in every possible way by special discount programs and gifts.

4. "Dreamers" - these know that change starts from the inside. Those. you have to work on yourself and then the world around you will change. At the same time, in fact, they do not really like to work. Ideally, they want the training for them to resolve all issues in the two (five) days it lasts. For these participants, personal growth training is a lifesaver, a lifeboat. They follow information like a magic pill. Then they say the training was nonsense. Because it didn't help. We need to work on ourselves (and laziness, once upon a time, relatives have arrived, the weather is bad, etc.). They promised a pill and didn't give it … Probably, I should go to another training. Brian Tracy, for example. This one will definitely help! For dreamers, webinars and distance courses are held (you don't even need to leave your home!)

5. "Generators". Unfortunately, they are a minority. They go not just for information, but for tools and technologies. And they are actively introducing them into their lives. Generators rate the training as useful and useful in terms of practical application.

Why does personal growth training fail in most cases?

Because the negative life scenarios of a person, his attitudes lie much deeper than ordinary training can reach. Here is a list of questions that the training solves:

1. Obtaining new specific knowledge.

2. Formation of a new skill (professional development).

3. Formation of new habits, provided that the training program lasts more than 21 days.

4. Increasing personal efficiency through going out of the comfort zone, the requirement to do here and now what the participant really does not want to do.

The training will really solve the issue of acquiring a new skill, but no one for the participant will solve his personal psychological problems. Personal attitudes in general training can only be felt

It is possible to work them out in individual work with a specialist. External changes in the quality of life are impossible without internal transformation.

What is the danger of personal growth trainings?

In the worst case, the methods chosen by the trainer are not environmentally friendly. Often in such trainings, the first day (two) is devoted to “disassembling” the participant's personality to the ground. Different ways. They tell him and show that he is nobody and they call him "no way", nobody loves him and nobody needs him.

Then rebuilding begins, reassembly. After attending the trainings, the well-being of some of the participants is growing rapidly, but at the same time their families are crumbling (to achieve the goal by any means, sacrifices do not matter!). And others, unfortunately, cannot get together at all. They leave the training as "no one" and "nothing". This is followed by personality disorders, depression, long-term psychotherapy.

At best, the training is not dangerous, but useful, provided the participants are properly motivated. And the coach was good and the result of the participants really worried him.

In any case, when choosing a training program, it is important to understand why you are going there. What result do you need. Be interested in feedback from participants, teacher experience. And it is important to understand that happiness is a state that comes from within; training does not give happiness. Don't believe that training can change your life - it's an illusion. Only you can change your life. Everything else is just a tool on the way to a cherished dream.

I sincerely wish you pleasant and comfortable changes!
