Yesterday they sent me this video (my relatives and friends consider it their duty to share with me all the psychological videos and memes! And often they are still waiting for my reaction to them).

I looked through it, had fun, thought, and remembered this. When I was undergoing training on the topic "Children with behavioral and developmental disabilities (ADHD, anxiety, autism)", there was a very interesting exercise that I had already forgotten about.

All members of the study group took turns becoming "children". The rest of the "adults" lined up in a corridor. Leaflets with phrases were handed out to them. And here is the exercise: "children" walked along this living corridor, and from different sides it sounded:

  • Get ready faster!
  • Stop whining!
  • Don't forget the hat!
  • Call as soon as you come home!
  • Clean up the room!
  • Behave yourself!
  • Stop yelling!
  • How much can I repeat to you!
  • Do not be greedy!
  • Stop jumping!
  • Say hello!
  • Don't eat sweets!
  • Say thank you"!
  • Don't forget the physical!
  • Collect your portfolio!
  • Leave your brother alone!

…………………………………

It was necessary to speak loudly, distinctly and continuously.

And so in turn. Then the "children" told how they felt and what they wanted to do when they walked along this corridor.

To summarize, there were three main options:

  • "I wanted to run through this terrible corridor as fast as possible and run away, run away, dash away."
  • "I wanted to sit down and cover my ears with my hands."
  • "I wanted to hit all these people."

Does it remind you of anything? "Freeze-Run-Attack".

This is what our children feel when they are infinite …..constantly …. give "valuable" guidance.

Try to count tomorrow:

  • how many times did you give instructions to your children
  • how many times have you asked about feelings, about deeds

I think you will be very surprised.
