In psychological science, the ratio of male and female in the psychological portrait of a person is considered in different ways. Masculinity - courage and femininity - femininity, is contrasted and understood as either one or the other. Although, biologically, there are only two articles, there are many more psychological variations in gender identity.

First of all, it is worth distinguishing between the concept of "gender" and "herder".

"Floor" - these are biological differences between men and women, the differences are solid and unbreakable, do not change depending on the time frame and culture. BUT "Gender" - This is a range of social characteristics, the position of women and men in society. May vary depending on time frame, culture and place of residence.

Gender identity - this is a comparison of oneself with a certain biological sex, as well as an attitude towards oneself as a representative of a certain sex, its forms of behavior and the formation of personal characteristics. Depending on gender identity, a person fully develops an idea of himself.

In 1974, for the first time, a hypothesis was formulated about the existence of three types of people with different gender identities:

  1. masculine characteristics are more pronounced

  2. feminine characteristics are more pronounced
  3. androgynous characteristics are more pronounced, which means that they have equally developed masculine and feminine traits.

Moreover, the third type was considered the most optimal. Androgynous people are distinguished by flexibility of behavior, the ability to adapt and differ in their creative abilities, as well as were more psychologically prosperous. The first two types were displayed as limited, inflexible, such that they demonstrate in their behavior gender stereotypes that exist in society.

Modern psychology in recent years focuses on mixed models of gender behavior:

  • masculine men (insensitive, energetic, ambitious and free)
  • masculine women (they tend to compete with men and claim their place in society, profession, sex, with a strong will and a steel character, they will stop a galloping horse and this is about them will enter the burning hut).

  • feminine men (sensitive, value human relationships, they often belong to the art world).
  • feminine women (the archaic type of absolutely tolerant woman, who agrees to be a “background” in the life of loved ones without any problems, is distinguished by excellent restraint, loyalty and lack of selfishness).
  • androgynous men (they combine productivity and sensuality, they often choose the humane profession of a doctor or teacher, they can knock on the table and console with a kind word, they can and do all the male housework and also incorrigible romantics).
  • androgynous women (they are able to perform entirely male tasks, while using female methods - flexibility, sociability, they will hammer a nail where necessary without any problems, they will fix the mixer, easily cope with leadership positions, but at the same time, deep down they remain vulnerable and sensitive women).

Contrary to the prevailing stereotypes about androgynous people that these are people without a specific gender and without a specific gender identification, psychological science suggests that androgyny is rather a sign of the high resilience of their owners, who often successfully self-actualize both in the family and at work.
