A characteristic trait of the misogynist, although not always obvious to the untrained person, is the fear of women. Otherwise, this type of phobia is called gynophobia or feminophobia.

What are the signs of a gynophobe?

1. By systematic active aggression against a woman (open manifestation of sexism, insults, physical violence);

2. By systematic passive aggression towards a woman (manifestations of sarcasm, evil irony, devaluation, any types of psychological violence, fantasies about causing physical and mental harm to a woman);

3. By avoiding emotional closeness in relation to a woman or avoiding relationships in principle.

Often behind the image of a womanizer who devalues women, there can be a latent homosexual or a person who is insecure, with a low level of libido.

Psychoanalysts believe that fear of women usually occurs in men who have unresolved conflicts with their mother.

Rejection or physical punishment by a strict mother in childhood can lead to the development of gynophobia. Such people tend to view women as a physical or emotional threat.

Often a child suffers from such fears, who, on the verge of puberty, was subjected to sexual violence by a woman, or psychological pressure, suppression, devaluation, indifference …

Freud, on the basis of his practical and intellectual research, coined a term for this story - fear or a castration complex.

At a certain stage, the boy begins to assert himself and feel the need to symbolically triumph over his father, having won his mother's love from him. At the same time, he is afraid that he will lose his penis as punishment. This fear starts from the moment when the boy sees that the girls do not have a penis. He begins to think that they have been deprived of their penis for some offense and he himself begins to fear the loss of the penis. It happens when in childhood boys begin to study their genitals, parents show anxiety, scold them, forbidding them to touch the penis, and sometimes they say: "if you touch it, we will cut it off." Because of the fear of castration, the boy refuses further rivalry with his father, suppresses masturbation urges in himself, or experiences feelings of guilt while engaging in masturbation.

In his study of the phobia of 5-year-old Hans Freud, he just described such a case when a child experienced castration fear of his father.

When does castration fear of the mother arise? When a mother does not want to see a man in her son. As a child, she can scold him for masturbation, ridicule his penis and sexual capabilities, disregard his interests, his personal space, impose her opinion on him, determine a lot for her son (often the choice of his wife), compare with others, devalue his views, needs. She, one might say, absorbs him.

Also, this boy could observe how his mother, like a female praying mantis, "swallowed" his father, who never played a significant role in the family, no one considered his opinion, he constantly drank or was like a "god's dandelion", and then completely withered away.

This is how the fear of women is formed when a man is afraid of being absorbed by a woman that a woman will destroy him.

This fear can take on various forms, disguising itself as a cynical attitude towards a woman, behind a demonstration of unwillingness to conquer her, a lack of need for relationships with women, behind bravado and defiant antics designed to scare or discourage a woman, punish her in one way or another.

Throughout his life, such a man experiences hatred and distrust of women, especially beautiful women or women who look like a mother, expecting humiliation and rejection from them. Often, he unconsciously pushes his partner into adultery or seduces married women in order to once again get confirmation that all women are "lustful creatures" who use and morally destroy men.

Gynophobes often use sexualization as a weapon against women, seducing and abandoning them, thus getting a sense of a certain triumph, the victory that they failed to win over their mother.

A gynophobe, oddly enough, on the contrary, can choose a woman who looks like a mother as his wife, and then wonder why he wants to change or humiliate her, move away.

The gynophobe has many secondary benefits, so he does not rush to psychotherapy, he often lacks criticism of his behavior, it is egosyntonic.

Therapy for such men is lengthy and often met with resistance. However, if you wish, nothing is impossible.
