From the point of view of Jungian psychology, dreams are the language of our unconscious. So, what is hidden in our dreams and how can we learn to understand the language of dreams?

In this article, I want to focus on the analysis of terrible dreams, nightmares associated with death, death and murder.

The first thing I would like to note is that with a nightmare, the subconscious mind draws the dreamer's attention to the information that it wants to convey. The worse the dream, the better it is remembered, the more important and relevant the information transmitted is. At the same time, the message that our unconscious conveys to us does not necessarily have a negative character, no matter how terrible the dream seems to us.

One of the most common plots that comes in dreams is associated with death, doom, murder. In this case, the victims of death are often the closest and dearest people: parents, spouses, children. Often in such dreams, the dreamer tries to save the dying person, but despite all efforts, such attempts are not crowned with success, and the dreamer loses a loved one. People, as a rule, wake up in a "cold sweat" and try to ward off a terrible dream from themselves, praying that he would never come back.

However, such a dream is very archetypal, and one should hardly be afraid of it. It testifies to the transformation taking place with the dreamer and has nothing to do with the death of loved ones in reality.

From the point of view of Jungian analysis, all the elements of a dream are the dreamer himself, his internal energies. Accordingly, the death of someone in a dream means the rejection of any property of one's own personality.

So, the death of a child in a dream can speak of a rejection of a childish, infantile position and testify to the dreamer's growing up.

The death of a mother may indicate that we are abandoning some trait that was characteristic of our earthly mother: overprotection, total control, or something else.

The death of a father or husband may indicate that our masculine energy, our Animus, is in mortal danger.

In this case, the method of death is very important. If we are talking about murder, then most likely in real life our active actions are aimed at destroying this property of our personality. If death comes from illness, then perhaps we are strangling in ourselves some trait of our character.

The closer and dearer the person whom we lose in a dream, the more difficult it is for us to abandon this property in real life.

In this case, the message can have a completely opposite message. In one case, our subconscious mind says: - Do not regret, give it up! In order to find something new, one must abandon the old, familiar. Only with getting rid of this will you find freedom, harmony and happiness! In other cases, the message of the subconscious may be the opposite, it screams, cries out for help: - Do not ruin the last thing that you have alive. This is what can save you from destruction, from the death of your personality.

This archetypal plot is often found in fairy tales. An example of such tales: "Mistress Blizzard", "Vasilisa the Wise", "Cinderella" In the original (unadapted) versions of this tale, the heroine experiences two deaths. At the very beginning of the tale, her own mother dies, and at the end, after she passes all the trials prepared by her fate, her Wicked stepmother and sisters die.

What does this plot speak about, what does the heroine refuse and, most importantly, in the name of what?

The death of a good mother testifies to the fact that growing up is possible only when you take responsibility for your life into your own hands, and for this you need to get away from vigilance and overprotection. At some stage, the mother hen does more harm than good, because it is not suitable for the role of a guide in adult life. A kind, protective part of our soul at some point interferes with our development, and therefore a too good, caring mother must die. At the same time, in fairy tales, the mother dies a natural death, which means this is the natural cycle of our life that occurs in the process of growing up. But a kind, caring mother is replaced by an Evil Stepmother, and not one, but with a support group in the form of the same evil and harmful sisters, turning the heroine's life into hell. The stepmother and sisters are the shadow side of the heroine's soul, which is very difficult to admit even to herself. This anger, envy, greed - these are the traits that are characteristic of each of us in some periods of time. But in order to get rid of them, one must recognize them, see them in oneself and transform them. And the whole further intricate plot is devoted precisely to the transformation of this shadow part of our Soul. The heroine will have to go through fire, water and copper pipes, experience fear and despair, get acquainted with Baba Yaga and a kind mouse / fairy. And all these tests are needed only in order to recognize and transform the SHADOW in oneself.

A similar plot is found in fairy tales of almost all peoples, in all corners of our planet. Just like similar dreams, people dream, regardless of their education, skin color, religion. These are the dreams of HUMANITY. Because each of us will have to go through the path of growing up and each of us during this path will lose something very dear in order to find ourselves.
