The race for achievements, comfort, opportunities to be in time, turns out to be in the modern world jogging in place … We achieve our goals, which supposedly will bring happiness. We earn and buy what we dreamed of, and what should give pleasure and joy. Life, according to our plan, should sparkle with bright colors and become sweet and sweet.

And suddenly, after the long-awaited ascent to Olympus of recognition and success, we find ourselves at the point "0" - emptiness and no fullness, no taste of life, no harmony. Complete zero". Even "minus". Because the hope that "having earned, having achieved, having established yourself", you will finally become happy, burst like a soap bubble. Running in place brings us to the main question in life - but does it make sense?

What is the meaning of the life of a modern person? Some of you can answer, what is the meaning of his life? Children, apartment, fur coat, career? And if it already exists or will appear soon? What's next? What is the purpose of your life on this earth as a whole?

Small goals, small values - running again. Although everything is subordinated to the achievement of some goals, the main, final goal, paradoxically, remains unconscious of an individual person. The immensity and increasing complexity of the surrounding world, leads to the fact that, as Habermas says: "For the trees we do not see the forest." Integrity is lost behind the change of the private.

I will give several reasons why MEANING BECOMES TRUE LUXURY in modern world:

1. Moral vacuum

The rapid and endless change of values, desires and dreams of modern society leads to the fact that in our desire to possess everything, we lose ourselves. Advertising, which imposes on us needs that do not exist, becomes the leader of the limits of our dreams and the main guide in the life of a modern human consumer.

We are lost in the vast modern world of super-abundance.

This has probably happened to you - you come to a huge shopping center, where you are offered 100, 1000 options for sweets, phones, shoes. You spend time looking for what you need, your Personality, in order to emphasize it. Sometimes in this search in huge centers you even forget why you came and walk, walk, and time flew by. And you try to choose an individuality, but it turns out, you lose time, opportunities and, in the end result of Yourself, you dissolve in the race for material acquisitions.

The endless development of science and technology has led to a "moral vacuum". Gadgets, cars, and even women have become visual indicators of success and success.

Children do not brag to each other about who read which books and what conclusions they made. The brand of the phone, the presence of a car or fur coat and the fashionable status in social networks are factors that more effectively and quickly determine the position among peers.

The words "Man does not live by bread alone" now acquire a completely opposite meaning from their original meaning.

2. Loss of norms and values

Institutions that traditionally transmit and transmit values and norms (church, government, media) have lost the influence and trust of society.

The CHURCH, as an institution of spirituality, has not been able to take its former pre-revolutionary place as a meaning-forming structure. Information about the "life" of the ministers of the church more and more often appears in the summaries of scandals with the millions of fortunes of the rectors of churches, their non-observance of the laws of God, which they hypocritically and "preach".

The next institute is POWER. People who should be a model of moral values, to be an example in family and work life, turn out to be liars, thieves and libertines. And this is already becoming the norm.

MEDIA. The flow of information from the media takes over us emotionally, and the opinions of paid "experts" replace our own. Articles are written to order, therefore, they lack objectivity. The flow of paid information has swallowed up society, and it is not possible for an ordinary person to figure out where the truth is.

All of this together undermines people's trust in basic value and semantic structures.

3. Loss of the symbolic order of life

“When the symbolic order is lost and there is nothing around that indicates the significant and the great, when the meaning-forming legends and myths are forgotten, and new revelations no longer illuminate life with meaning, then the soul dies. We tore off the veils of mystery from all things, replaced the mythological consciousness with the so-called "enlightened consciousness", but the world became more incomprehensible and threatening. Now nothing is sacred for us, the loss of religious symbols has led to meaninglessness,”- Ursula Wirtz.

In modern society, replacing the image of God - the "Big Other" with a humanized image - "mom-husband-government" has become the norm. Even children are brought up with the premise that the Parent is the bearer of the only correct solution to all problems. His competence and literacy cannot be questioned. Those. he cannot be wrong, it is implied - he is a saint. A manager at work cannot be wrong, he is meant to be a saint, etc. Symbolic order and its absence is one of the most important factors in the loss of the meaning of life by society.

Considering all of the above reasons, modern man remains on my own with their problems and questions. But the feeling loneliness and inner emptiness frightens him even more, and he begins to rapidly run away from them in the direction of ghostly happiness, success and prosperity. Running in place …

“The purpose of life is not happiness, but meaning,” says James Hollis.

The psychotherapist's office is mainly visited by people who have lost the meaning of their further existence or are trying to find it due to the current circumstances - with an unexpected dismissal from work, loss, divorce, with an incurable disease, at the limit of their strength and capabilities, on the border between life and death …

At such moments, all past achievements lose value, and a person realizes his impotence before what happened. It becomes vitally important for these people to know their meaning - why he was given life, and why this happened in it, and how to live on. And is there any sense in this further?

They are brought to the therapist's office by grief, disappointment and pain, but if this had not happened, they would not have asked themselves the questions they ask and which they will eventually answer.

The ways of the Lord are inscrutable - it is not for us to know why and why moments of testing come into our lives.

Maybe to get the biggest THE LUXURY OF MODERN LIFE IS THE MEANING.

“Seek and you will find,” says the Gospel.

With the wishes of a favorable wind on the path of finding your meaning in life, psychotherapist Svetlana Ripka
