A rumor swept through the city about a certain gentleman who brought a secret chest with "important" words. Many people gathered in the square after learning about this. Among them were educated and illiterate, rich and poor, smart and not so … But everyone was worried about one question: "What happened to the chest?"
- Well, suppose I buy this chest, - the merchant said slowly, - and what should I do with it next? What is the use of these words to me? Who am I selling them to? He scratched the bald top of his head, counted the money in his beaded wallet, bit his lower lip, and fell silent.

(Moreover, he always expressed his own opinion, without being interested in others.) - We lived without them and will continue to live, - he continued. “I’m bargaining at the market, I’ll talk the woman out, if that’s what,” and a woman's giggle rolled over. - To collect a barrel of water - you don't need much! And I can drive my horse without these cunning words. And he smugly patted his skinny horse on the withers.
- What if this gentleman does not open his chest for us and we still don’t find out what words are in it? - timidly said a student who studied philosophy. - Maybe it turns out that these words are very important and our further cultural development is impossible without them.
- Maybe this is just another intrigue in order to gather more people and put forward some slogans? - The gentleman, who was a member of the secret brotherhood, spoke out. (Which one, there is no need to narrate here. There were many secret brotherhoods in the 19th century).
And behind speculation and various hypotheses, people on the square did not pay attention at all to the old chest, which was knocked over on its side as a result of active movements of the crowd.
A little girl, about seven years old, the only one from the audience, became interested in this "junk". She went closer to the chest and opened it quite easily with her hands. The kids immediately crowded around her in anticipation of pleasant surprises.
The girl slowly and with interest examined the contents of the chest, but she did not get anything from there.
- It's empty! - yelled a tradeswoman from the bird market. - We've been tricked! - The crowd moved towards the girl, who, examining the chest, climbed into it.
“Something is written here,” the girl said. - Now I'll try to read it. And she said aloud the following words: - Understanding and acceptance!
There was no limit to the surprise of the crowd. It became noisy, and many began to leave the square.
- Just think - important words! - Said the merchant, leaving the square.
- I understand my horse, - the water carrier muttered and took the water to another part of the city.
- Wait, there is still a message from the future! - The girl found an unusual note in the chest. The rest have died down. Everyone tried to listen carefully, what will happen to these words in the future?
- It says here that in a hundred years some people will be seriously interested in the meanings of these words. They will develop and then describe the "helping relationship".
And after another hundred years, there will come a fashion for the massive use of such words and concepts, even in everyday life. The families will begin to say to each other: "I heard you (-la)", allegedly informing about understanding, but in fact it will be the same as: "I sent you away", or "Leave me alone, it's not up to you now." …
And many more will talk about acceptance: "I accept you", absolutely not understanding the depth and importance of this concept. And in fact they will report: "Everything is okay with me, take a closer look at yourself" …
The crowd remained silent. There was the rumble of the hooves of a horse receding into the distance, pulling both a barrel of water and an ignorant water carrier.
The student-philosopher pondered, wrote something on a piece of paper and with a brisk step walked away from the square. People began to disperse. Someone touched the future, someone thought about the meaning of "important" words, and someone did not understand anything at all.
And the girl, who discovered the chest and read the important words and a note from the future, was glad that she had learned to read. But she still had to understand the meaning of most of the words …
