A person who is not used to openly expressing his emotions retains and accumulates them in the body (most often negative ones, for example, resentment, aggression, fear and anger). When the level reaches a critical level, then muscle spasm occurs.
The first student of Freud, Wilhelm Reich, introduced the concept of "muscle carapace". Its function is to protect against displeasure or perceived danger. But the body pays for this protection by reducing its ability to enjoy.
In total, Reich identifies seven segments of the muscular shell: the eye area, the mouth area, the throat, the chest, the solar plexus, the abdomen and the pelvis. And the place of blocking directly depends on the unlived emotion.
Eyes
The protective carapace is manifested in the "empty" expression of the eyes, which seem to be looking out from under the mask and the immobility of the forehead.
Mouth
This segment includes the muscle groups of the chin, throat, and occiput. The jaw may be too tight or unnaturally relaxed. In this part, the expression of anger, screaming, crying is retained.
Neck
Includes the tongue and deep neck muscles. Basically, the muscle block holds back crying, anger and screaming.
Thoracic segment
These are the chest, arms, broad muscles of the chest, shoulder blades and shoulders. In this part, passion, laughter, sadness are held back. With restraint, any emotion is suppressed.
Diaphragm
This segment includes the solar plexus, diaphragm, internal organs and muscles of the vertebrae at this level. The muscular carapace is manifested in the forward curvature of the spine. The exhalation is more difficult than the inhalation. This block keeps intense anger.
Stomach
This segment includes the muscles of the back and abdomen. The tension in the lumbar region is associated with a fear of attack. And on the sides - associated with the suppression of hostility and anger.
Pelvis
This segment includes all muscles of the lower limbs and pelvis. The gluteal muscles are sore and tense. The muscle carapace in this area serves to suppress arousal, pleasure, and anger.
How does the pain become chronic?
When a muscle is under tension for a long time, then it begins to work much harder than normal. And with muscle clamps, blood is squeezed out of the arteries and capillaries of the muscle area, as a result of which slags are formed there, and the blood flow is insufficient to remove them.
Over time, the toxins begin to irritate the muscles and cause pain. And when the brain receives pain signals, it increases muscle tension in this area, and this further reduces blood flow and increases pain. And so the pain turns into a chronic state.
In the next article I will write ways to remove muscle clamps …

The other day, a client, a 52-year-old woman, Elena, turned up with a request for low self-esteem. She constantly worked to feed two children and required her daughter to keep an eye on her younger brother.
