From one point of view, all fears are derivatives of the fear of death. This does not mean that in overcoming every fear you need to bring up the topic of death. But if the fear of death has settled in your head, then this almost always leads to anxiety or panic disorder. At the same time, psychocorrection of the fear of death has its own unique features. And I propose to disassemble them. Remove hypercontrol

In general, the fear of death is the only fear that is based 100% on the fact that we all necessarily realize what is inherent in this fear. We are all bound to die. It is also reliably known that death can only be foreseen (and is far from always true), but it is impossible to know that it was launched at this very moment. We connect A and B, and we get the following. We are all bound to die, but no one knows when or how. Therefore, the expectation of fear in the present tense can mean only one thing - a neurotic reaction of hypercontrol. It makes sense to remove it in the first place to anyone who wants to get rid of the fear of death!

The meaning of life is happiness?

Paradoxical, but true. Those who are afraid of dying often do not see much meaning in their lives. That is, it is the loss of contact with the meaning of life that begins to actively feed the fear of death. Conventionally, the meaning of life can be divided into 2 components - the sphere of success / achievements and the sphere of happiness. And now those who do not often and intensively contact with the feeling of happiness (those who have little serotonin) are unprotected from the fear of death. That is why the skills of spontaneity, the skills of obtaining pleasure at the moment are the next stop on the way to escape from the fear of death.

Is the meaning of life in success?

Continuing the topic of protective neurotransmitters. Success (not socially, but personally, when we are talking specifically about achieving things that are meaningful to you personally) is a source of phenylethylamine and dopamine. And these substances are substances of active and exciting activity. And when in your life there are enough consistent activities that captivate you, actively motivating you goals, the fear of death actively dissolves in the stream of your activity. Yes, it's worth clarifying that the strategy for success and “do something” are two different things. It's like a Zaporozhets - it's also a car, but owning it is not about success.

Tolerance to discomfort

Don't feed a person with bread, just give him the opportunity to climb into the comfort zone. Moreover, it is desirable in a state of relaxation. And in this craving for comfort, we automatically forget that it is with the help of a state of discomfort (yes, it is better with the help of controlled, motivated discomfort) that we achieve everything that we ourselves then consider significant for ourselves. And therefore, the ability to be in discomfort and not avoid it, but continue to move towards goals with it within oneself, is the most important step in managing the fear of death.

Frustration tolerance

By analogy with discomfort, facing disappointment also leads to a loss of contact with oneself, with one's resource, with one's capabilities, plans, and goals. We fall into frustration and powerlessness with all our psyches at once. We suffer, worry, complain somewhere (or frankly whine), and our fear of death becomes many times stronger. That is why the ability to give up excessive expectations and step over unfulfilled expectations is an important milestone on the way to overcome your fear of death.

What is your view on how the fear of death can be overcome in practice?
