Leaving behind the mountains, the lonely Traveler went out onto the road that passed through the yar. His attention was attracted by a rope ladder, which was located to the left of the road. She went into the sky and hid behind the clouds.

The traveler went up to the stairs, grabbed the crossbar with his hands and tugged at it. She was firmly attached to something.

He looked around, but saw no one around. The only living soul was a Raven sitting on a stone. When the Traveler left the inn in the morning, the hostess told him that, following this path, he might meet animals that talk like people.

With this in mind, he approached the raven. After standing for a while and looking around again, he made sure that no one was around, and spoke:

- Hello! I am a Traveler following my business. Please tell me what this staircase is and where does it lead to? - he asked.

“This is a rope ladder leading to the sky,” Raven replied.

“Yes, the hostess did not deceive when she said about talking animals,” the Traveler thought, and decided to clarify with Crow:

- Where exactly and how high? - It seemed to the traveler that he had already asked this question.

- Just to the sky, - repeated the Crow, - this is the final stop. You go up the stairs, and at some point it ends.

- And then what happens? - asked the Traveler, feeling that he would not like the answer.

- You are dying, - Raven answered, looking at the Traveler.

- A-ah-ah! Well then, I went on, I have a business and it is important for me to complete it, - said the Traveler, intending to follow his own path.

- Go, - said the Raven - but this does not exclude the fact that you are climbing your stairs, which leads you to your sky. Each bar represents a task that you have completed, but at some point the bars will run out. You may or may not notice it. Sometimes you can look down and see how high you have climbed. And sometimes not. They end unpredictably.

- Then I will stop at the last planned case and become Immortal! - Said the Traveler. “Or I'll go back to the completed one,” he continued, almost dancing.

- It will not work, - said the Raven, and mock annoyance sounded in his voice, - then the days will become those levels that previously marked the beginning and completion of business.

- That's it … - joy disappeared from the Traveler's face, it seemed to him that the Raven was mocking him. - Are you serious or joking?

- What kind of jokes? - Raven roused himself and added. - I am telling the truth!

- That is, whichever way I go, I still climb up the rope ladder to the place where it ends …

- Exactly.

- But if I am already climbing my ladder to the sky, why does this ladder appear on my way? - Asked the Traveler.

- You are ready to know that you have the ladder of your life, however, call it whatever you like. But the order of what is happening will not change. Everyone has their own "ladder", but not everyone is ready to see it, - said the Raven.

- So, I'm all so prepared that now I can know about it? So what? - asked the Traveler.

- Yes, it is, - answered the Raven.

- And what should I do with this knowledge? - asked the Traveler.

- It all depends on what you did before, how much did you manage to notice how you live and for what? Do you have time to taste what you have prepared or do you take on the next dish, swallowing the last one without chewing? Have you seen the people and the path you followed? - asked the Raven.

After standing a little and without saying a word, the Traveler glanced at the Crow. Meeting his gaze, he silently nodded to him and walked on.
