Probably, everyone in life has moments when there is a "stop", a reassessment of values and when the need to search for meaning is very acutely felt.

A person begins to ask the question "Who am I?", "Where am I going?", "For what?", "What do I really want?" etc.

Sometimes such a kind of crisis of personal development occurs at a hidden, invisible level and a person may not even fix it, but feel it as a kind of anxiety. And if he is not inclined to introspection and generally prefers to go with the flow, then this crisis, having not fully manifested itself, will not become for a person that fulcrum, that impulse that would make it possible to change something in life or switch to a new level of development.

These experiences, the search for meaning, the posing of such questions and the search for answers to them, the feeling of an impulse for change, if such are determined by a person as necessary in life, can serve as a kind of springboard on the path to a new life, to a new self.

The reason for this impulse, impulse can be a certain life circumstance or situation, but the reason for this will always be an internal predisposition and readiness of a person for development, a strong internal desire to change something.

And this is exactly the situation when a person makes an internal decision to go forward, even when the destination is not fully determined, when a person understands and accepts the fact that there is no turning back, he finds himself at the “point of bifurcation” of his life and personal development.

"Point of bifurcation" is a term from physics, which denotes a change in the usual way of working in a system. This is such a critical state of it, in which the system is very unstable even with the smallest deviations from the usual way.

At the same time, uncertainty arises: what will happen to this system next?

Two options are possible: the system will become chaotic or it will move to a new, more differentiated and higher level of order.

You can translate this into the plane of the personality as a self-organizing system, and describe this state in the language of psychology.

So, the "bifurcation point" in life and personal development can still be characterized as a "point of no return". Because during this period of deep insight, making a decision, changing the usual mode of life, a person understands that if he comes back, he will return already different, renewed, and he will no longer be able to build life, relationships according to the old familiar patterns.

"Point of bifurcation" means that a person has been in a state of extreme uncertainty for some time, in a transitional period, and he does not know exactly what will happen next and how everything will go. He may have some plans, ideas, but often they serve only as guidelines in order to pass this point as best as possible and still move to a higher level of his development.

This moment of uncertainty is experienced in a very tense and difficult way.

If you manage to use all your possible resources and withstand this moment of truth in front of yourself, meet and live complex experiences and new discoveries in yourself, then the transition to a new more differentiation, a higher level will occur, and a new space, new opportunities will open up for a person, and life will become more fulfilling and meaningful.

But if there is not enough strength or desire, if a person is simply frightened, then he will find himself in a situation of chaos, which, as a result, will launch many destructive tendencies and lead to self-destruction. This will manifest itself both in the physical death of a person and in the form of his extinction as a person.

But death as a metaphor will also take place in the version of the transition to a new level. After all, a person is, as it were, reborn as a person, and in this process something must die, wither away, and something must be reborn.

How do you deal with this tension of uncertainty?

Firstly, during this period you need to be very careful and sensual to yourself. Try to listen as much as possible to your feelings, desires, needs, and learn to catch the first signs that “something is wrong with me now”, and then analyze and disassemble what is wrong, and where this feeling came from. When the reason is clear, then eliminate it.

Secondly, to track and learn all the destructive mechanisms of mental activity that are possible and inherent in us. They can be learned in childhood, or developed as pseudo-protective in the process of ontogenesis, that is, already in the process of our life and its circumstances. Track and eradicate any possibility of their manifestation. You need to focus on clarity of thinking and use all your strength and resources that are needed to make the transition.

Third, it is very rational and critical to define your capabilities and resources. If there is a feeling that they are not enough, then it is also rational and critical to assess the external environment on the subject of who can support, if necessary, with what and how.

And if we manage to withstand this tension of uncertainty, the transition will happen! And there!…

But that's another story…
