One ring to rule them all

My darling!

One little boy found a thick silver ring in the sea with an incomprehensible inscription. The boy did not know how to read yet. How beautiful it sparkled in the sun!

When Kolya, that was the name of the boy, saw him at the bottom, between the stones, he immediately realized that the thing was expensive.

"It's a shame. Probably a big one." But the ring was wrapped around his index finger in an incomprehensible way.

“How good I am with this thing!” He thought.

All day the boy walked with the ring and waited for the parents' reaction. But mom and dad did not notice the new clothes. The friends in the yard did not notice the rings, no matter how much the boy gestured, no one paid attention to such a wonderful thing.

Kolya fell asleep without taking his eyes off his new clothes. "Nothing. In the kindergarten, I will show everyone my charm." But even there the same story repeated itself. For the whole week, no one except Kolya himself saw his ring.

A few weeks later, Kolya himself stopped seeing his find. Only the feeling of decoration remained on the finger.

Instead of a ring, the boy was left with a desire to attract the attention of others and a sense of superiority. After all, no one had such a charm. It's a pity I didn't remember the silvery letters.

And Kolya also acquired various super abilities: to be a favorite among adults and secretly like girls. The girls didn't know about it, but they definitely liked him.

Later, at school, Kolya had some more talents. Come out dry from the scrapes. Being invisible in the classroom. And if need be, then shine with knowledge, just as his charm once shone.

No one else had such a magic ring! Sometimes he remembered it, sometimes he saw it in a dream.

It turned out to be friends only with one person, but what a good thing. He often helped, protected, saved his friend. Sometimes a friend had to change, but this did not prevent Kolya from being the best friend! His best friend has always been his charm.

After school, he remembered little about his ring. I just studied and worked. By inertia I tried to be a good husband, a good father. But everything turned out somehow wrong. Not to say that it is bad, but not good enough.

At twenty-five, Nikolai decided to quit smoking and went to the sea. Then, diving with a mask, he caught a glimpse of his silver ring on his hand. I tried to look at the inscription, which I could not read as a child. But the mask was fogged up and it was impossible to make out.

And then one rainy evening at twenty-eight years old. Nikolai saw in the mirror a lock of gray, silvery hair. He rushed to feel the gray bump. At that moment, on his right hand, on his index finger, he saw that very ring with the inscription "neurosis".
