Once someone took and invented the concept of "personality", which, it would seem, should have beautifully explained almost all the secrets of the functioning of the human psyche. In fact, it turned out that it confused everyone even more.
Like any overly good idea, it caused more disagreement and confusion than collective delight. And away we go: some believed in heredity as the determining factor of who we are, the second - in the theory of learning, and still others - in the shape of the skull, or even in the size of the thumb. And they continued to believe and actively prove each of his own truth. And I, too, have always wanted to find such a truth. No, no - not to make a discovery, but simply to find among strangers your warm, cozy idea of the personality. And a couple of weeks ago, I very unexpectedly found him.
1. Get out of the room, make mistakes
When we travel, we briefly step out of our comfort zone. A soft sofa, a usual schedule of life and a constant social circle remain somewhere outside. As a result, you find yourself sitting on the train - in an uncomfortable seat, with many strangers on a dozen square meters, willy-nilly confined in a cramped space. Directors often choose a trip as their favorite plot for a thriller precisely because in such situations a person loses his usual everyday shell and can manifest himself especially. Once I was very impressed by the idea of a Soviet psychologist that a personality in its entirety can manifest itself only in stress. And then - another, foreign, who said that only in a crisis a person can change. If we put it together, it turns out that when we get into stress, we manifest ourselves and then, only having survived the crisis, we change. Some believe that this is what psychotherapy is doing - it throws it into a crisis to help it finally emerge.
2. The carriage will move, the platform will remain
It so happened historically that I passed the same psychological test several times in different periods of my life. You understand - the university, diplomas, student tolerance and all that. And once, getting the results, I was surprised: for 6 years the basis of my personality remained the same. Not exactly identical, but the basic features have not changed. Only their ratio has changed. As in the case of cooking a dish, for example, borscht: more seasoning, but less salt, or vice versa, the essence is still the same - borscht remains borscht. And I, too, remained borscht, albeit a little more spicy.
Some are inclined to justify their misanthropy by the belief that "people do not change, period." It's convenient to think so, but boring. Because a person in the process of life can, without radically changing, turn to you in such a way that you could not even think about.
Now the person seems to me as a kind of whirlwind with a rod in the middle - leaves, cows and pieces of dirt rush around a relatively constant base in gusts of wind. And if the core structure is sufficiently stable and difficult to move, then the windy shell can and should be controlled.
Therefore, everything is in your hands.)
