The causes and mechanism of development of eating disorders is a complex, multifactorial issue. I will only talk about his psychological and pedagogical side. From the point of view of a psychologist, the correct introduction of complementary foods occupies a special place in the prevention of eating disorders.
· When to introduce complementary foods?
Then, when two factors coincide: the pediatrician will allow, and you will notice the child's nutritional interest. How does a baby who is ready for complementary foods behave? He is interested in food, demands it, takes it away from you, pulls it into his mouth. Nutritional interest is formed on the basis of imitation of adults (this is the main mechanism of development for a baby). To imitate, the child must see: adults eat, it gives them pleasure, it is a pleasant and important part of life. With this approach, the baby will accept complementary foods with delight.
After the first spoonful, continue to sit down at the table with the whole family (with the child), maintain a pleasant atmosphere at lunch. Turn off the TV, do not take gadgets to the table! The child must learn the rule: food intake is only food intake. No games or cartoons for food, all attention is on food! Turning lunch into a performance, you disrupt the baby's digestion (changing conditioned reflex arcs).
With the first complementary food, food addictions and preferences are formed. Having got used to the tastes that you offer now, the child will prefer them to others all his life. Form healthy eating habits: do not rush to add salt and sugar to your baby's lunch, for the same reason, do not overuse children's "adjustable" cereals. Prefer water of all drinks.
In the future, adhere to the regime and rituals of food, avoid snacks. Introduce your baby to sweets and junk food as late as possible, never replace them with a regular meal.
· Bottle or spoon?
Just a spoon. And a mug. Everything is like adults. The purpose of complementary foods is not just to enrich your baby's nutrition with vitamins. The pedagogical meaning of complementary foods lies in its introduction to the culture of food consumption. In our culture, people eat using cutlery. Somewhere spoons and forks replace chopsticks, somewhere they eat with their hands. I do not know of a culture where it would be customary to eat from a bottle with a nipple. Another important function of complementary foods is the development of the articulatory apparatus, preparing it for speech. Chewing and the presence of solid food are very important for this function. Therefore, it is necessary to switch to pieces as early as possible (but still in an individual schedule).
How much to spoon feed and when can you give your baby a spoon?
The spoon can be given immediately. Have you noticed how the baby licks everything he can reach? If a child takes a spoon, for sure in a second it will be in his mouth, and this is what we need. Why is it important? Not only because it is convenient (but not right away, of course. It will be messy at first). From the point of view of a psychologist, independent food intake is the development of motor skills and coordination in a child. Hold the spoon in the correct position; scoop up the porridge and bring the spoon to the mouth without turning it over; getting a spoon in your mouth - that's a workout!
As you can see, by understanding the pedagogical principles of introducing complementary foods, it is easy to avoid big problems. I am glad if to someone the truths described here seemed simple and well-known. And I'm just as glad if someone learned something new.

Eating Disorders
A very important point to understand when we talk about eating disorders is that eating disorders fall under the spectrum of emotional disorders. What does it mean? NPP is a "relative" of conditions such as depression, anxiety, or somatoform disorders.
Why Did He Choose You, Even If You Later Broke Up ?
Parting is always unpleasant, even if it brings relief to both partners. Men and women, when parting with a partner, often think: what was the real reason for the separation, regardless of who initiated it. Difficulty arises if we cannot find a logical explanation for the reasons and motives for parting.
Did You Recognize Yourself? You Will Soon Have To Visit A Child Psychologist
I am often consulted with children. The smallest client was 1, 5 years old. And although the psychologist has very few tools for working with such a visitor, a lot of information makes it possible to observe the interaction between parent and child.
Verbal Component Of Eating Behavior: Talking About Food And While Eating
Continuing the topic of photographing food, I would like to talk about the verbal component of eating behavior, namely, talking about food and while eating. And, first, a story told to me about our guy from St. Petersburg (in fact, I know him a little, our mutual friend told him), who married a French woman and lives with her there, in France.
Nervous Food. Eating Disorders
Eating disorders are mental disorders. They are, relatively speaking, with a minus sign and with a plus sign. With a minus sign - lack of appetite, suppression of desire to eat, anxiety about weight and body shape - anorexia nervosa. With a plus sign - a very strong appetite, excessive concern about weight and body shape, when a person eats a lot, and then, due to feelings of guilt and shame, can compensate for gluttony with strong physical exertion, causing vomiting - t
