1. You don't know what you really want. And this has been going on since childhood, when at first you fly in dreams, then choose one from a multitude of desires and reinforce it with an already conscious interest in your choice

Oh, how I longed to be a doctor! And then as a driver in the district agricultural machinery - in order to really continue the dynasty of my grandfather, dad, aunt, uncle … And after detectives Conan Doyle and Agatha Christie - by all means an investigator! I even conducted a serious investigation into the Leaky Trough case, when after the winter the ice melted in it and the water went into the ground through an awful lot of holes. I was sure that it was Baba Shcherbanka who hurt us so much for not agreeing to her marriage with my grandfather. And dad quietly asked me: "Lyuda, did you break the ice with a crowbar in winter?" It was then that everything fell into place, the shame of paint spread over my face, and I realized that studying the experience of Hercule Poirot and Sherlock Holmes is not enough for a successful career as a detective. Fortunately, it was in the club that they showed the French version of The Three Musketeers, after which I immediately wanted to go to France and other exotic countries. And also suddenly I saw myself as an artist of large theaters and world cinema. No, it's better to travel. Although … My two dreams are successfully embodied in one …

2. Your dreams will not come true, when at the same time, as a child, you are told all the way: you will not succeed, this is not yours, it is not with our happiness to rock the boat there, you have no abilities, etcetera, etcetera …

I did productions with my girlfriends at our house for my aunt and little brother. She performed on the stage of the school stage and the village club, learned to recite beautifully, sang in the school ensemble, read Stanislavsky in the library and memorized all the world's plays … And dad stoically motivated me to “success”: “You can't sing. You have no talent. An artist ?! There are only whores! The directors ?! Do you know that there is a competition - 100 people per seat?..”No, I understand dad… He in his own way protected and guarded me from the vicissitudes of life, and the role of a teacher in a rural school seemed to him more prestigious, natural and practical. The main thing is that I am warm. And before our eyes.

3. Dreams continue to be dreams when they collide with your values: a sense of duty, affection, love. More often than not, we sacrifice a dream. Well, what are my castles in the air compared to real dad and mom, sister, beloved … Well, I will neglect them … They care about me … They will be upset if I leave everything and go to the artist … Or, even worse, I'll start wandering around the world …

And that's why I choose the pedagogical institute! True, not the Faculty of History, as my dad wanted, but the Faculty of Philology: I can continue to teach and recite my favorite monologues there! Or maybe later, in my third year, on the sly of my dad, I'll go to submit documents to the theater … But after the third year I managed to get married - what kind of artists are there …

4. You remain to live in a castle in the air, because it is scary. Fearfully. What if I don't? Oh, there are some sketches that need to be shown … They say they may ask to depict a lock on the door … What if it won't work? Fear stands in the way. He won't let you in. He comes up with the most compelling excuses so that you do not twitch, but stay where you are. The fear of failure is one of the strongest before the opportunity to become who you see yourself in your dreams

Perhaps I will graduate from the pedagogical institute, there will still be a specialty. And I will do later. Then it's not scary. And dad will not be so worried - I can always work as a teacher. And I travel almost twice a month - from city to village and back … In the summer - practice in a pioneer camp … Now my son grows up, and I will become an artist. The husband, however, laughs at my dreams. Well, nothing, I'll become a famous artist, then we'll talk …

5. But here Comfort awaits you - one of the most powerful demotivators after fear of failure. He makes you even forget about your dream. He hugs you in his favorite chair near the TV. With such clear, concrete convolutions, it instills confidence in you. He protects you with the love of family, friends, colleagues … Comfort whispers in your ear that …

Life is good! And what? In the classroom - like on stage every day! What is not an artist? And I also have a drama club. Every holiday is on me. I write scripts myself, I myself am a director, an entertainer and a theater of one actor. And, most importantly, I can travel! I even went to the Carpathians and Zhitomir on the tour packages of the trade union committee. And to Yalta once with my son. And so - I can hit the road for the whole summer! There, not far from the sea. True, something is all wrong and everything is wrong … All something is missing … As if I am preparing myself for some other life. What is she like?

6. A dream will never come close if you run from it. If you are constantly wondering what to do with yourself, you just need to remind her a little about herself. If you are ready to be content with a surrogate. By the example of others, you can guess that dreams come true …

Eh, but Natasha got her way! Now he travels all over the country with the theater … So, well, I have no time for that. I need to get my son back on his feet, pay off a loan for an apartment, earn money somewhere … And such times have come that it's not up to dreams … People are losing their jobs with their families … And I'll work as an artist at banquets, and at the same time I will go around the neighborhood …

7. Another fear awaits you - the fear of success. You can come close, close - and give up your desire. Because a lot will change in your life. You simply cannot live the same way. It is possible that you will lose many familiar things: meetings with friends will become rare, you will leave your favorite chair, you will have to give up the established route of home-work, you will suddenly feel yourself a traitor to those who have remained faithful to their castles in the air.

For several seasons I have been playing in the folk theater. What a delightful feeling it is to go on stage and reincarnate now in Rita from "The Dawns Here Are Quiet", now to replace Sveta, playing Zhenya; and I learned the role of Viola from "Twelfth Night" ever since I reread all of Shakespeare at school … I would live on this stage forever … The Regional Drama Theater announced a competition to recruit actors, first for extras, and then - as necessary, it is possible that they will live … Oh, it's gone!.. What to do now? I have to make a decision within a week … No, not now: my husband left for courses in Vilnius. Who will be with the child? And the money in the theater will not be paid yet …

8. But these are all excuses. Excuses. Excuses. Indeed, the only truth is that when you decide to follow your dream, you need to take RESPONSIBILITY. It means to admit that you will always be the cause of all ups and downs, successes and failures, achievements and gray everyday life. It is much easier to live when there is a dad who does not let the artist into, when there is a job that is simply impossible to leave now, when the children are growing up, when the dollar and the Dow Jones index are falling, when it snows, when the heat is … life does not happen, you know, somewhere out there, beyond the bounds of our consciousness, our RESPONSIBILITY, not claimed by us, is left.

Well, what can you do?

And take the risk. And do not expect better times to come - they will only be harder and harder. The slogan “Risk is a noble cause” is more relevant than ever. Everything changes very quickly. If today you are afraid of being ridiculed and banned, then tomorrow no one will remember you.

So why not take a chance and go after your dream?

It doesn't matter if you have just become on the wing or have been basking in the retirement sun for a long time. The fulfillment of a dream has no statute of limitations.
