The goddess Athena Pallas was born from the head of Zeus. Zeus knew that the goddess of reason, Metis, would have two children from him: the daughter Athena and the son of extraordinary intelligence and strength. The goddesses of fate told Zeus that this son would take away his power over the world. To avoid this, Zeus put Metis to sleep with gentle speeches and swallowed her before the birth of children. Soon Zeus felt a terrible pain in his head. Zeus summoned the son of Hephaestus and ordered to chop his head off. With a blow of an ax, Hephaestus split the skull of Zeus, and from there, to the amazement of the other Olympic gods, a mighty warrior, the goddess Athena Pallas - "the strong daughter of a strong father", came out in golden military attire. Athena patronizes science and crafts, art, knowledge and ingenuity. And yet she is a military strategist. Athena is the only goddess who uses male attributes: armor, helmet and spear. In this, Athena differs from Ares (Mars), who loves the horrors and confusion of war.
